Could it be the oatmeal?

For over three years after his coronary bypass, Cliff took one 40-mg Lipitor tablet a day. His cholesterol numbers were great.
Three months ago his quarterly blood work showed that his cholesterol was too low. He was told to cut his tablets in half, so for three months he's take 20 mg daily.
This morning he received a call about his latest blood work. His cholesterol is still too low, and since you can hardly cut a pill into quarters, we got a new prescription. He'll now be taking only 10 mg of Lipitor daily.
I've been making sure we have oatmeal for breakfast at least four times a week lately; I wonder if that's what suddenly made his cholesterol take a nose-dive.
He and I are happy that he's putting less medicine in his body, and our budget is happy too; Lipitor isn't cheap!
We'll see how things look ninety days from now. Wouldn't it be great if he could totally stop taking Lipitor?

  1. I think that is so great. Anytime you can stop using meds is wonderful. Keep up with the oatmeal. It certainly can't hurt anything.

  3. Sounds like it could get expensive, cutting tables in half every time you have to take a pill.

  5. It would be great! He doesn't need to be on that stuff. My friend's dad changed his eating and exercising and he is off of all of his meds.

  6. I'll bet he can get by with just continuing the oat meal and adding garlic and fish oil tablets... we'll have to wait and see.

I hope it's the oatmeal because that's what I have for breakfast 5 days a week. The banana flavored weight control kind is damn good!

  11. I'm sure as heck NOT a doctor but my Dad (and I) have just as good results taking a no-flush Niacin supplement daily.

Tell him to enjoy that steak!

I've started eating oatmeal 5-6 days a week and have had the same results as Cliff. It's a wonderful thing to be phasing out Lipitor

  13. Dear Hubby has eaten oatmeal for years since his dad had a major stroke back in 1992. It has helped keep his cholesterol in check. I hate taking pharmaceuticals...especially Estrogen. I am so, so glad I've weaned myself off of it and am finding relief with natural remedies!!! One elderly friend of mine said not long ago doctors are pill-happy...and once they give you a pill for one thing, they treat the side effects of that with another pill for another pill for another pill. He finally weaned himself off everything but his blood pressure medication and says he feels better now than he has in ages. I'll be praying for Cliff!
