My latest purchase

I have blogged about Pandora.com before; it's an excellent mode for listening to music geared to your own tastes: You create a station by submitting various songs and artists you like and Pandora adds similar music. If you don't like the song they're playing, you give it a thumbs-down and it's never played again.

I've often wished I could listen to Pandora in other rooms, while I'm doing housework. Right now, the only way I can do that is to turn up the volume on my computer, which of course makes it too loud in the computer room and not loud enough in the bedroom. Plus the fact that Pandora stops playing after a certain amount of time if you're not there to click and give it the go-ahead. Pandora wants you on the computer if you're going to use their band-width.

Thanks to my sponsor (over on the right) I had some money to spend, and I decided to use it toward the purchase of a Grace Wireless Internet Radio. I read the reviews on C-net, and they seem to be favorable.

So now I'll be able listen to Pandora without even turning the computer on! Let's face it, you can't find any stations that play Leadbelly, Woody Guthrie, Loudon Wainwright III, Chuck Brodsky, The Carter Family, Iris Dement, and Kasey Chambers. I don't know of anyone other than myself who even wants to listen to that combination of musicians.

That's what's so wonderful about Pandora: No matter how weird your taste in music, you can fashion a station to your liking.

I'll let you know how I like my Internet radio, once it arrives. This will be my answer to Cliff's XM radio!

  1. Good for you ! I have radios all over the house and rarely turn them on. Quiet has become a way of life for me here at home. Maybe I need more music in my life. I do love it. Any way this sponser is enabling you to have a little perk in life that you wouldn't have had otherwise. Enjoy! 'On Ya'-ma

  2. I love Pandora and have been using it for a long time. Never had the notion to get the gizmo to play in various rooms. But, always thought it was a good idea

    Donna and Others:
Yes there is a station that plays the folks you mentioned:
http://KWBC.FM . Most of these songs are in our 6000 song library and in our regular mix 24/7. We do play more of them during The Old Buzzard's Show 8-9 pm Central weekdays and starting next week Sunday mornings from 6-9 am Central.
We do not cut out until you turn us off, have a members forum and welcome requests!

P.S. I love Iris's work. We even have many songs that have never been put on a commercial CD!

  8. Actually I like all of the artists you mentioned except Chuck Brodsky. I'm not familiar with him. And Iris Dement is from Paragould, Arkansas, a small town about 25 miles from here.

I've had the same problem viewing some blogs, Donna. I think it's a Blogger glitch. If you'll click on archives and bring up the February posts it should show the text. That's what I've done on blogs that are doing that. Actually, your blog was that way for me yesterday, so I opened up your archives and read it that way.

I'm interested in your internet radio and how it works for you. Sounds like a good thing to have. I listen to Pandora occasionally and like being able to tailor it to my own tastes, which are just as strange as yours or even more so.
