I’m sure all bloggers wonder about all the people who read their blog but have never commented. I don't take it to heart, but I sometimes wonder if they are local people who are just nosy, or perhaps Internet friends I have somehow offended. I am one who doesn't comment a lot on the blogs I read, but I do read their blogs almost daily. My friend Margaret comments quite a bit on my blog, even though I very seldom comment on hers. Not only that, but when I do comment, rather than comment back on my blog, she sends me an email in response, which I think is great! That makes it more personal, and probably gets her more readers and more comments. I'm just too lazy to do that.
I started blogging for two reasons: I wanted it as sort of a diary that I could look back on through the years. If nobody read it, I would still go ahead, although I do like the interaction. And I wanted to be able to say things once in a while that folks on social media would just argue about, always making sure they get the last word. My politics have changed drastically. I very seldom talk about it here, but I have a few times.
When I read the stats of my blog, I've noticed a few people (9 or 10) must have started at my first entry and are gradually going through every entry day by day. How boring! I wonder if they have a club, like the book club people do. Although it might be interesting for them to notice my opinions and feelings have changed over the years. I am not that same person I was when I first began blogging on AOL back in 1999.
Yesterday's entry, so far, lists ninety folks who came to read it. However, the link I included that would take them to a story from 2007 (which was the whole point of yesterday's entry) was only read by fifty-four.
I have put myself out there knowing that some people are coming to this blog to judge me, and I will continue as long as I have my right mind; I assume my family members will let me know when I can't think well enough to be doing this.
Do others of my blogging friends ever wonder about these things?
No, I don’t wonder about that. Patsy started blogging and got us to join in. I’ve just continued. I kept the same job 39 years. Now, it’s just a habit with no purpose at all except a footprint of me.

DeleteI do comment occasionally on blogs... but don't wonder about readers or "commenters". I do check on my comments and get rid of the spammers. My blog is pretty boring for the most part...

DeleteWhen ever I see your blog I will always stop to read what's going on with you. I saw where the little girl you used to watch, Cora I think her name was is 11. How can she be that old already. My youngest granddaughter will be 13 in Oct, hard for me to believe all my grands are grown up.

DeleteI clicked on your blog from another person’s blog (can’t remember whose it was) many many years ago. I think you had maybe moved out of your little cottage or were at least writing about it. We had a lot of things in common, my husband loved to work on John Deere tractors, I would show him pictures of Cliff’s Oliver tractors! we had a dog named Sadie at the time, I was going thru breast cancer a short time before your daughter was, my husband had 6 stents put in about the time your husband had heart surgery! I love to garden so enjoyed your garden stores & let me see, we live in a double wide trailer! Haha!

I think maybe you did comment once or twice. I have favorite blogs myself, people I feel like I know although we've never really met. We have a lot in common for sure! You know, Cliff still sees his cardiologist every year and has never in 18 years has he had any heart trouble... and this is a man who does not eat a heart-healthy diet. He did for about 4 years, and then we both went back to our old ways. The cardiologist's nurse couldn't believe he had never had any problem.
DeleteI have been reading your blog for ages but although I don't comment I really enjoy it. Your life is so different from mine in rural France and I feel that I know you and your family quite well. I think that when I first started to follow you, around 2006, you used to ride your horse but had to stop because of knee operations - hope I've got that right. DeleteI do wonder these things as I get a lot more readers than comments. But like you, I don't often comment on other blogs, especially if I have nothing I feel I can contribute to the conversation. I'm not an affirmation type of commenter. I also don't seek out comments as my blog was mostly a journal for me to download thoughts and not to attract readership.

DeleteWell, I enjoy your blog. I dont always get much chance to talk to you so it's nice to know what's going on. I like to use my other Facebook account for stuff I enjoy and kind of use it for a fun picture journal of what I've been up to or have been thinking about. Not really the same, but sort of. It doesn't get paid any attention to but it's kind of fun.

That's partly why I don't respond to comments directly on my blog. I like the privacy of communicating individually.

I’ve followed you a long time, beginning in aol journals. I knew nothing about blogs until there was an article about Dad’s tomato garden blog in my local paper and from his I spread out and found others. I don’t comment often but I’m always reading.
