More old stuff

I woke up even earlier than usual this morning, turned on the computer, and had no Internet. When I looked at the DSL modem and saw the Internet light wasn't on, I knew I was in trouble. Sure enough, I called Embarq and was told that this whole area was without Internet, that they were working on it, and that they hoped to have it working by 9 P.M.

This didn't put me in a panic, since they always give a much bigger window of time than is actually used. Now, two hours later, I'm in business.

With the Internet down, I decided to nose through some more old junk.

I used to send letters to the editor at the Kansas City Star (there was no Internet back then, I had to vent somewhere), and some of those letters were printed. Here's a sample:

I found a poem I wrote (still one of my favorites of all I've written) that was printed in "Countryside and Small Stock Journal".

For some reason, I didn't take a lot of pictures of my kids in the mid-seventies. This is on my daughter's birthday; my mom had made her a "Sunbonnet Sue" cake. It's probably 1976. I do believe she has the same expression here as in that "four generation" shot.

There was a time (1995) when my son and his family were in Germany and my daughter and her husband and baby lived in Branson; I had some grandchildren, but I certainly wasn't getting to enjoy them. A young lady in town was in need of a babysitter for her six-month-old son, and Cliff and I instantly had a baby to enjoy! We watched Cody until he was about two, I believe, and we absolutely loved him to pieces. He was a gift from heaven.

  1. Nice finds for a quiet winter morning. I love that picture of you and the little one you were babysitting. I've got to say that I've never been happier doing anything as I've been holding a baby. I miss having my grandbabes close for sure. Holidays just don't really allow you to get to know them very well. I keep on trying but our time is so limited. Thankfully I'll see a few of them more when camping season begins. Hope your Tuesday is a great one. 'On Ya'-ma

  2. I'm back from the sunny but cool south. Suited me fine as I wouldn't be caught dead in a swimsuit any more anyway! lol!
Love all the old pictures you have been finding lately. The poem and letter to the editor are really good! The cobbler looks to die for, would like to have a nice big helping right now!

Your granddaughter sure looks like her mother! As far as having grandbabies far away, I went thru that, (and still do)When my daughter had babies 2 and 3,in England, her best friend here had babies within weeks. I got them too. I am still Nana to them.
