Today's ride

We left at 8:30 this morning. The further south and east we went, the more clouds were in the sky; we stopped and put on more clothes an hour into the ride.

We already knew Cliff's favorite aunt and her son weren't going to be home, but we needed a place to eat our sardines, so we used her porch; while we were there, Cliff noticed he'd missed a call and returned it. You'll see him on Aunt Gertrude's porch talking to Donald.

Cliff has lots of cousins in the Versailles area, so we can always find somebody to visit. We chose Edna this time, though. My email buddy.

When we headed home, Cliff asked which route we should take and I said, "Well, you know how tired we always get going home; I'd say take the easy route."

He, however, decided to be adventuresome. So the trip home took an hour longer than usual. We arrived home at 5:30, and it was getting dark. We never ride in the dark.

Cliff elected to cross I-70 at Boonville and "see where this road leads."

What it led to was a ferry ride across the Missouri River, because a new bridge is being constructed there. When we saw a sign about the ferry, Cliff decided to avoid it by turning left on what appeared to be a well-kept state road. Surely it wouldn't turn to gravel? Away we went.

The people along this road, and the houses they lived in, reminded me of the movie "Deliverance". Everyone waved at us, and the more waving I saw, the louder the banjo music got. I took pictures of a couple of the houses. I will admit that none of them looked quite as bad as the trailer house we rent out, though.

Turns out the road was so well maintained because it led to a historic site, Boones lick. Past the turnoff to that place, the road turned to gravel. So back through banjo-land we went.

We had no choice but to ride the ferry ($8... highway robbery).

Thank the good Lord I put a pork roast in the crock pot before we left this morning. I came in the house, baked potatoes for me, Cliff, and Rena, cooked some frozen broccoli-and-cauliflower, and ate like a pig.

Just another good ride that went a bit longer than I would have chosen. But worth it in the end.

  1. Don't ya just love the way men ask which way you want to go and then when you say they go the oppsite? I put a rump roast in the crock pot at five this morning. Your ride sounds interesting.

  3. In general I like to take the road less traveled, especially if I've never been there before, but sometimes as you say you just want to get home already! Still, even with the 8 bucks for ferry fare it sounds and looks like y'all had a nice ride.

Hope y'all have a good Sunday.

    Love and hugs,

    Diane
