What a day!

I started my day this morning with an hour-long ride on Blue. It was cloudy, but still a pleasant ride.

Cliff, who has never been able to find any morels, decided we'd mushroom-hunt instead of taking our regular walk, which suited me just fine. We split up so we could cover a larger area.

I found this white-ish toad. Or frog. I've never seen any amphibians this color before. He wasn't spookish at all, but stayed frozen to the spot while I took this closeup shot.

Another Mayflower growing through a leaf.

For the first time in his life, Cliff found some morels. Of course, it took the two of us two hours to find this many.

Hi Donna...we had an article about Morel Mushrooms in our morning paper today...it was interesting...but actually I knew all they said from what you have blogged to us from time to time LOL..and the people who wrote the article wouldn't give us any ideas as to where around here to look for them...big secret...guess otherwise they would be overtaken by "thieves"??? hope you find many many more...they look good!!!! glad Cliff is getting in on the fun!!!! hugs to ya...Ora

  2. Glad that you both found enough for what looks like a good meal. That frog was pretty well camouflaged. Helen

  3. Yum!! I'm literally salivating at the sight of all that mushroomy goodness in that bowl. Enjoy the fruits of your labors.

I left you a comment on Facebook about the frog. I'm almost sure it's a tree frog. I've seen them before, but never on the ground. I wonder if they're breeding? They have to mate and lay their eggs in water just like other frogs and toads.

  8. When I was a kid, we had a wood lot famous for morels. Everybody else found them I/we never collected a single one out of it. As I've grown up I've found my secret areas, before moving here; although, they exist according to others they're found around here it seems each spring time I just don't have the expedition time. It seems We’ve a primary area just a quarter mile down the road from here.
Got a burning question for Cliff! Does he know for how much that splendid 1650 Ollie had sold for? If the Leland down in the barn weren't in such good mechanical shape and a just barely good PTO power unit, I'd trade it off in an instant for an equally powered Ollie. And it was the 1st diesel tractor on the farm I brought home years ago.

  10. See... we are just far enough north that we haven't seen any yet. Do you like to eat them? No me. LOL I cook them up for my dh sometimes... when he finds them. We didn't get many last year... if any. So he's hanker'in for some... something fierce. Ü
