Those blue dryer balls: Save your money

Now, I didn't know somebody was selling these on TV. All I knew was that Cliff's two sisters swore by them: They supposedly do everything fabric softeners do, plus help your clothes dry in less time (I didn't know about this last claim when I bought mine, though).

I'm not impressed. The only thing I'm now convinced of is that I'll pass on using softeners until winter, when the static electricity makes everything cling together. Whether I use my balls or not. (Wipe that smile off your face.)

Clothes do not dry faster.

I wanted to see if it was just me, so I looked up this Consumer Reports article.

Darn it. I've been sold on another snake-oil remedy.

Reminds me of one of my favorite childhood fairy tales, "The Emperor's New Clothes".

  1. Okay, I've got another one to add: those "Smooth Away" sandpaper thingies you're supposed to be able to use to smooth away body hair. Note that I said "supposed to" there. Yeah, they don't work unless you take three or four layers of skin off with the hair.
(Disclaimer: one night we saw those on TV and I wondered aloud if such a thing could work. The husband 'surprised' me with some the other day and I found out the hard way that no, they do NOT work.)

  4. Blog, sister, blog!! We need your blogs. I, for one, would be heartbroken if you were to go 'away'. You have a way with words, my friend....keep 'em comin', please !! Sounds like you and Cliff are working through your financial maze pretty well. It beats throwin' the money in the air and lettin' it fall where it will....LOL.

Take care and Hi to Cliff !! Nance in CA

  5. Thanks for the heads-up on dryer balls. Now let me give you a heads up on that stupid doggie pedicure thingie. Doesn't work either. My little Gloriebelle would rather have her nails pulled out with pliers than ground down with a rotating piece of sandpaper that sounds like a chainsaw.

  6. Mo, I am one of these strange people who do NOT under any circumstance use fabric "balls" softener or dryer sheets. They coat your clothing in chemicals that are NOT good for your body and the sheets are the #1 cause for dryer fires in the whole USA. The sheets coat your dryer vents and "parts" that block the flow of your dryer. I don't want those chemicals on my body or my dryer. But that is just MY opinion. Anne
