I've been fighting with my computer again. I noticed for the past week that every time I sign off at the end of the day, I get a message saying windows updates are being installed. That would be a wonderful thing, but it's EVERY SINGLE TIME I turn off my computer. Windows doesn't update that often.
I realized yesterday that my computer is constantly growling, all day long. You know, like my stomach growls when I'm hungry. And while it was growling, it was moving slower than usual. In otherwords, it was trying and failing to install updates.
So today I went to the Windows Update website and clicked to update. It did fine for awhile, showing the green progress bar installing parts one and two. When it was time for three, though, the green progress bar froze.
I uninstalled Avast antivirus; the tech who worked on this computer prefers it to AVG, but AVG is what I know. And who knows, maybe Avast was part of the problem. I also got rid of Spybot Search and Destroy, at least for now. It had a little lock thing showing on my taskbar, and I wonder if it has been blocking my installation of the updates. Welcome back, AVG.
Ah HA! While I've been typing this, I've had Windows Updates going. I do believe it's going to take, this time.
Yes! I'm updated!
Donna, I can tell from your love of life, your sense of humor and your willingness to embrace technology to convey all of the above.... that you are a MAC person trapped in a Microsquish world. You must plan now to leave the dark side, come into the light and exit the virus ridden, pop up message world that is MS. There is still time, but you must accept the truth. 9 years running... no viruses over here. (PS... AVG IS better.)
ReplyDeleteMy computer has been doing the same thing. It finally stopped doing that yesterday. I even went to the updater thingy and was going to shut it off for a few days but there was no way to do it. Helen
ReplyDeleteHope that takes care of it all for you. I know you shouldn't get updates that often for sure. Computers are a mystery to me. Next one I get will be a Mac as they don't have the virus problems pc's do. I got a new one a year ago and wonder why I didn't think of that then. Now it will be awhile before I spend that much money again. 'On Ya'-ma
ReplyDeleteWhen my computer growls or decides to take naps I call my husband to fiddle fart around with it. I don't have the patience or the know how. Hope all works out in your favor! Take care,
