Odds and ends

Trying to salvage what's left of my rotting onions, I made a huge batch of chili that used four cups of them, chopped. Cliff and I had chili for dinner today, and I froze the five quarts of it that remained.

I learned that onions can be chopped and frozen in the same way I've been doing sweet peppers for years.

I was really hoping for a long road trip this weekend... even perhaps the whole upcoming week. But it wasn't to be. Not next weekend, either, because I get to see John Prine live on Saturday, September 12. Maybe the weekend after that, Cliff and I can head to Arkansas... or someplace else that can be squeezed into a three-day weekend.

I really have a desire to see our local high school's football team play; there's a home game tomorrow night, and I'm going to see if we can get that done. I have a couple of local granddaughters who might want to go with us (or me, if Cliff isn't interested).

Oh, and I wouldn't mind getting together with my daughter's family for a barbecue on Monday.

We'll see how everything turns out.

My Mom used to do that with onions but when I chopped/froze them they tasted a bit more sweet(like too sweet). Perhaps it was in my imagination, since I see them sold that way also. ~Mary

  2. I've even seen frozen onions at the grocery store. I've never had them so I don't know how the flavor is. The chili sounds good and with cooler weather coming I'm sure I'll be making some. It is one of my favorites and it does freeze well. It's something I can make a big pot of and still have it again and again. Hope your weekend is a wonderful one whatever you do. I will be camping and am taking my old laptop so I may get a chance to check in instead of waiting til Monday evening when I'll get home again.
