*yawn*

OK, I'm ready for a nap.

I've been taking my herbs out every day, even leaving them out at night when there's no chance of frost. What I'd like to do is transplant them to my flower bed, but I don't know how hardy they are. If anyone has knowledge about basil, thyme, cilantro, parsley and other herbs, please let me know in a comment whether they are as cold-resistant as, say, lettuce and radishes.

The last job Cliff and I did outside today was to put electric fence around our garden spot. We have neighbors who are too sorry to build a proper fence for their livestock, and their horses have already been traipsing across the garden spot a couple of times in the past month (same neighbors who like to trespass and steal morels; big surprise, right? Same ones whose trash blows across our pasture so that Walmart bags bloom like flowers in our treetops and meadow.)

Anyway, I'm worn out and I think Cliff is too; and he still has ten hours to put in at work! Maybe I can get enough rest for both of us.

  1. Unfortunately, the only herb I know is Alpert. I just went for my first bike ride of the year and now I can't decide whether to shower or call the ambulance.

  2. Basil I know won't take frost. I think the thyme and parsley might as sometimes they carry over the winter here, but they are in a sheltered place . Most of the time they freeze out. Our oregano is in the ground permanently as well as chives and they are now up and growing and come back every spring. Cilantro I think is like basil and won't tolerate the frost. Good luck!

  4. I tried to grow cilantro, and it didn't hold up well when it got cold....... the next year I tried again, and it just up and died on me. It was then that I just decided it was cheap enough at the store. LOL

My thyme and chives made it through the winter but there was a lot of leaves on top of them!

  6. Ah the joy of neighbors. When I moved to the country I thought, hey, this is going to be alright! You know I used to live in a neighborhood, so my neighbors were in fact really and truly next door. I know too well about that trash blowing. I have to go out back and make the rounds to pick up pieces of plastic, foam plates, and I have been picking up pieces of phonebook for months. You see, their german shepard and that jack russell terrier tear things up in that yard and then it blows over here. I am so afraid one of my emus is going to eat some foam or plastic and its going to kill them. Spent all that money on a fence and it still doesnt block out everything. :( I hope you got that nap in. Love, Kelly
