A commenter made my day.

I wasn't quite feeling up to par the last couple of days; my acid stomach came back to haunt me.  It was my own fault:  I'm on Omeprazole full time, have been for a few years.  Every once in awhile I try to wean myself off it because of the side effects, which include difficult, burning, or painful urination (I have a history of UTI's); stomach problems (really?  I'm taking it for my stomach acid!); lupus; and a myriad of other problems.  I'd not taken one for a week, and the burning tummy was back with a vengeance.  I took two, waited the necessary 20 minutes and ate like I'm supposed to... just some soda crackers... and spent a miserable day.  Yesterday I took one capsule and felt a lot better.  Today I only took only one and I am back feeling pretty good.  I won't skip any days for at least a week.  They had me on 2 a day for a long time, and I'm just happy to be able to get by with only one.

A new visitor to my blog named Jim left a comment here about an old blog entry of mine; that comment is the very reason why I allow people like him to comment; many bloggers won't take that chance.  I rarely get spam in my comments, but I delete them as soon as I find them when I do.  It's worth leaving things open to all comers.   Here's the entry his Google search landed him on.  He left a link to a youtube video that had me smiling the whole time I listened to it.  I'm a fan of Arlo and Pete Seeger anyway, but this was just what I needed this morning.

Cliff's asthma is really acting up.  He's a typical man, so he tries to hide these things from me until it gets so bad he gets nervous about it.  He always thinks he can "wear it out".  That may have worked when he was younger, but at our ages, it isn't wise to put things off; he can barely walk out to the garage.  The last three days, his chest has been hurting, so I wouldn't be surprised if he has pneumonia.  We called the pulmonologist; he ordered prescriptions for an antibiotic and something different the for asthma.  When the back roads have had time to thaw a little, we'll go get the prescriptions.  Oh, and Cliff has an appointment next Wednesday that I didn't even have written down, so he can talk to the doctor about any issues.

So I've been doing any outside work, most of which is my job anyhow:  I've shoveled off sidewalks and porches and gone to the mailbox and made several trips to the chicken house every day.  Don't forget taking Gabe out to potty!  The temperatures are going up into the 50's next week.

While I was doing my chores today, I took my camera outside into the sparkly morning.

There are no clothes on the clothesline today.

Here's the pussy willow my cousin Betty gifted me.  In the background is my "bodha tree" otherwise known as cottonwood.  Like the old song says in the movie "Tammy",  it really does whisper in summer.

It doesn't show up as well as I'd like, but the bottom half of the rooster's wattles (the thing hanging down below his beak) is as black as can be.  It got frozen.  I'm wondering if that part will just wither up and fall off; I've seen slightly frozen combs on their heads before, but never the wattles.

Alright then, I'm outta here.  We're going to Walmart for the prescriptions.  Our new glasses are ready at Costco, but Cliff isn't sure if he can walk that big store, and he'd die before he'd be seen riding a mobility scooter.  Men!

  2. I used to let anyone comment on any post but it sometimes becomes challenging to find an old post to delete the occasional spam. So now I have it set that I have to approve any comment on a post more than five days old. That seems to be the happy medium because it allows anyone to comment and if it is spam, I can delete it with one click in the verification email they send and not have to search out the post it was made on.

We had many a rooster that lost its comb and waddle due to frostbite back in the day.

  3. That is very pretty sparkly snow. (but I still don't want it!) I think my comments close on posts older than 5 days, but I'm not sure of my settings, now that I think about it.

  4. I understand Cliff. Larry wouldn’t use handicap parking spots.

  5. Magnesium pills fixed my stomach. You could try it. I still have trouble like you but, it stops the acid. You should give it a try it. It’s good for you too.

    1. I've taken one a day for at least 10 years, and I'm going to start taking two... because guess what? Omeprazole depletes magnesium in your body. I remember telling Patsy Magnesium helps with constipation, and I was taking it then, I know.

  6. Tell Cliff that the carts are zero turn. They will turn completely around in an aisle. I use them and they are kind of fun.
Have you ever tried candied ginger for your stomach. I use it when ever mine gets angry and it calms it down immediately and tastes pretty good also.

    1. Oh, that's not it. He knows he would have no problem driving it. He's a man, and doesn't want people to see he's vulnerable and weak.

  7. If Cliff is on blood pressure medicine, Google side effects of the kind he takes. I had 2 different BP med's (at 2 different times) start giving me severe asthma SYMPTOMS. ONE I HAD TAKEN FOR YEARS. Also, have his doctor check his heart out.

    1. He has regular checkups with his cardiologist. We knew this wasn't his heart. His mother awoke one night and went to her recliner to breath better. She was dead the next morning from Asthma. Her sister, Cliff's aunt, was in the hospital about 4 times yearly with asthma. His brother, Phil, two years younger than Cliff, has developed late-onset asthma ten years ago. His sister Charlene suffers terribly from asthma... it's hereditary. Cliff's blood pressure stays pretty much stable, and he's been on those meds for years.

    2. I'm glad it's not the BP med's. I was on some of them for years before I would have the asthma symptoms.one had me so bad, I ended up in the hospital. Come to find out, asthma symptoms was a "unusual side effect" . Leave it it to my body to pick out the "unusual" side effect! I'm so glad Cliff got some medicine to help him!!

  9. Pat takes Symbicort, Proventil, and Spiriva for his asthma/COPD. Take the stomach meds. I will not go without anymore. The damage to my esophagus by stomach acid is permanent and not worth it.

    1. Well, as long as one pill works, that's what I'll be taking. Cliff is a new man already after we picked up his prescriptions... a steroid and an antibiotic. He can breath! We know all about heart pain. This was his lungs, and they stopped hurting before he went to bed last night. He has late-onset asthma, but he had it a long time before he would say anything to a doctor about it. I didn't know it was asthma though. It's in his family. His mother died in a recliner in the night trying to breath due to asthma. His aunt, his mom's sister, was in the hospital about 4 times a year, the last years of her life. His brother has it. His sister Charlene has it. I read that 55% of asthma cases are inherited. He just hasn't been diagnosed long enough for us to know much about dealing with it. He has an appointment Tuesday. I can't go in with him, though (covid reasons). So I have to hope he pays attention while he's there. Cliff does take Symbicort as well as albuterol, which doesn't seem to help him much. He hates taking the Symbicort because it hurts his throat, but he takes it... not quite as often as he could, though. He is so much better today!
