My creative husband

On my AOL journal, I've been telling about Cliff's efforts this week to get some old metal cleaned up and ready for the junk man. Iron is bringing a good price just now, and Cliff had quite a collection of old farm implements around. Some were things he used at one time until he upgraded; others were dinosaurs that fell into his hands that he thought he might use: an old mower that might be made to work again, if a guy needed it; a concrete mixer left behind by a handyman three years ago. He has it all loaded to haul away except for one huge piece.

In the cleaning-up process, Cliff salvaged a few things. He comes from a background of "making-do-or-doing-without". I'd put him up against anybody when it comes to coaxing life out of old farm equipment.

Cliff's welding torches were pushed around on a small-wheeled cart; he could transport them easily over the concrete floor of the shop. But if he had to take the torches over gravel, they didn't move so well.

So, he took the tires off the old cement mixer (he also saved the motor for later sale or possible use)....

and rigged his torches in such a way that he can move them over gravel without a struggle.

Never fear, he didn't disassemble his nice John Deere mower. But, lacking a "before" picture of the one he used, I include this to help show you what he did to design a trailer for his lawn tractor. Picture an old rusty mower like this, turned upside-down...

and perhaps you will realize just how good my husband is at making something from nothing.

Cliff, I salute you!

  1. That is really a neat invention! My Dad is like that, he is always making something out of some piece of old machinery or something that has been hanging around the barn forever. Good job Cliff!
