One of my readers yesterday wanted to hear me sing Star of the East, the song I mentioned in my previous post. It's hard for me to share a video of myself singing because I am aware of my vocal imperfections, as well as my limited skills at guitar playing. So I did a video, but it's a short one, just a little over a minute: One verse, with the chorus that I can't find on any version of this on the Internet. My mom bought the sheet music, and that's the chorus it gave. It is also, as you will be able to tell, the part of the song that was higher-pitched than I can comfortably sing, but I did it when I was six, and I'll do it now. Consider this your Christmas card from me.
Merry Christmas!
Very cool! What a wonderful way to wish us Merry Christmas!
ReplyDeleteThank you. And I didn't even have to buy stamps!
DeleteThank you Donna! This YouTube subscriber enjoyed it. I hope you share more videos of your daily life. Especially the singing!
ReplyDeleteA video of my daily life would be the two of us sitting around all day, getting sick and tired of one another all closed in on a cold day. Or in the evening, watching the same Netflix shows every day. Not too exciting.
DeleteYou had nothing to worry about. I found it quite good and delightful to listen too.
ReplyDeleteThank you! I enjoy your songs. You do a very good job singing them and playing your guitar too.
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas. Wendy
I try.
DeleteThank you. What a wonderful voice you have.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the nice complement.
DeleteThank you Donna, that was lovely. I do remember singing that, I think it was sung at one of our church Christmas programs. Remember those? Every church had a Christmas program, kids would sing and recite poems and sometimes the older kids would put on a Christmas play. And at the end every kid got a bag of goodies that contained candy, nuts and fruit. That was when real Japanese mandarins were really special and you only got them at Christmas time. I miss those days.
ReplyDeleteYes, those kiddie programs have always been one of my favorite parts of the Christmas season. When I grew up in the Church of Christ, Christmas was never acknowledged because the Bible doesn't say anything about celebrating Christmas. But at school we'd have Christmas plays with baby Jesus. We had a tree and celebrated Christmas at home, just not at church.
DeleteDid not know that about the Church of Christ - do they still practice that today? Did they celebrate Easter?
DeleteNorthern AB gal, I really don't know, but I'd be willing to bet some congregations celebrate Christmas AND Easter. C of C has no headquarters, so I'm sure some have changed along the line, maybe not all. When I was growing up, no C of C had any instruments... just accapella singing. I believe now some of them do have pianos, etc.
DeleteVery nice! I think you are too hard on yourself.

ReplyDeleteYour Christmas card is really good (the song)
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you enjoyed it.
DeleteThat was great! I didn't know you played the guitar, too. I thought it was beautifully done.
ReplyDeleteThank you. I only chord, and not all that well. But I do enjoy having the guitar to accompany me. I'm very proud of my Gibson Dove, even if I don't do it justice.
DeleteBeautiful!
ReplyDeleteThank you & Merry Christmas to you.
You're welcome, and the best of the season to you.
DeleteThat was great!
ReplyDeleteThat was me.... that was ME!!! I asked you to sing this song and you did!! Thank you so much, Donna. That's the best Christmas gift I could have ever received.
