"Choose Me"

My Sadie is the most unique, smartest, craziest best friend I ever had. No pedigree, no pretensions. She wasn't anything special to look at; she wasn't the "cute little puppy" I went to Wayside Waifs looking for.

But every time we passed her cage, she rubbed up against it to get as close to us as she possibly could. The third time back at her cage, I knew she was the dog for me.

I imagine if I had not taken her, nobody else would have. Because stuck in that cage as she was, nobody could have known her true personality.

Don't go buying some fancy, highfalutin' dog. Get one that will be eternally grateful for a home. Let one special dog (or cat) choose you.

That's what I did.

  1. A lovely post! My first pet came from Wayside -- and there have been pound dogs every since. Two from the pound in Ottaway, KS and the last baby, a little blind boy, from a rescue in Tulsa, OK. You can't go wrong with a dog like these -- they just love you to pieces, and steal your heart.

  2. It sure hurts to see dogs in shelters. Those wagging tails just begging for someone to take them out. Brings tears to my eyes even to see videos of them. We love the two we rescued. I am sure Sadie was meant for you. Helen

Best thing about Wayside is that it is a no kill shelter.
