Stupid Venetian blinds

I'd like to remove my blinds and give them a thorough cleaning.  Unfortunately, I can't figure out how to remove them from the top piece.  It's entirely different than the ones I had over at the house.  I really have no desire to clean them one slat at a time with them hanging in place, but it looks like I may have to do it that way.  At least they're only in four windows.
Google led me to this statement:  "Assemblies for venetian blinds vary, and you may have to use a screwdriver for this step."
I may use a shotgun before this is over.
Before I give up, I'll have Cliff look at them tomorrow.
Have any of you had this problem?

Here's a closeup picture looking down into the top left side of the assembly.  Yes, it's filthy.

Here's the right side.
Now that I think about it, it might be easier to just go buy new blinds.

  1. I refuse to take my blinds down to clean them so I've TRIED to dust and clean them while hanging. It's not the best job, but it's the best it's going to get!! Ugh--no fun.

You don't have a picture of the part that needs to come off. Facing the same part from the front (end pieces) the little cover slides off to remove the blind. Basically the part you took the picture of is the holder and is shaped like a U, and the cover on the front boxes the end of the blind in.

  3. I used to have blind cleaning down to a science with 19 windows but now I have only 8 so I just mostly ignore them.

  4. I hate taking mine down to clean them also. Somewhere in this house is a handy blind cleaner brush that will clean five rows at a time on a set of standard blinds. Of course, I don't know where it is which tells you about how often I actually use that gadget. Now I'm kinda half motivated to find it tomorrow. It is a handy contraption... I like it best when hubby takes them down and we soak them in the bathtub and then hang them back up. Once they've been washed though, they never repel the dust quite like they do before that first good washing.

  6. I have bought new cheap ones at the dollar store for 4.00! I figure that verses the cost of our high priced water is about the same! lol But like your son said, there is suppose to be a little piece on the end that slides out, letting you pull the blind rod out toward you.
    love ya,
