Wintery weather

We're having cold north winds and a little snow, enough to barely cover the ground.  About a month ago we had a slight snow covering, and here's what the traffic cameras showed, over on the Kansas side.  Cliff's mom always told us you can't trust Kansas drivers (but she substituted another word for "drivers").

I've already heard of one school closing.  I suppose if people are going to have this much trouble on a slight covering of snow, we'd better do what we can to keep the children safe.
I've been enjoying "U is for Undertow" by Sue Grafton.  It's been awhile since I've read one of these books, and I am enjoying it thoroughly.  I read until the words run together in a blur, then I make the print larger on my Nook and keep on reading.  In the evening I read until I begin dozing off in the middle of the action.  Not that the story line bores me, I just can't stay awake, reading in the evening.
Sue Grafton has almost gone all the way through the alphabet with the Kinsey Millhone mysteries; "V is for Vengeance" is already on sale.   I wonder if she will start over with the letter "A" when she gets to "Z".
Here's one problem I have with checking out e-books from the library:  You can't just immediately check out the books you want; you usually have to place a hold on them and wait until you get an email saying they're ready.  So I put a hold on two or three, hoping that will keep me in a steady supply of reading material.  Sometimes I end up with three books at once, and only two weeks to read them.  It's no big deal, I suppose, since it isn't costing me a cent.  I can always return one without reading it, and check it out later.  That way somebody else on the waiting list can have at it.  I should probably just put a hold on one at a time and give myself a break between books.  The trouble with that is that lately there is NOTHING new on television worth watching, and as long as I have something to read, that takes the place of TV.
If these are the biggest problems I ever have, I had better count my blessings, don't you think?

Oh, I'm sure most of you have noticed my goofy header picture.  David has been at it again, thanks to another KC blogger's encouragement.  I'll leave this one up one more day and then put the normal picture back... that is, if the space aliens don't carry me away first.

  2. Well here in northern Ohio, we have to have a couple of feet of drifting snow and high winds it seems before we have any schools close. They do get out with salt for the roads pretty regularly so for the most part it is a smooth go of it. But we still have some that forget to slow down and lots of accidents do occur. Our snow is supposed to move in overnight. I'm so glad I can stay in and not have to drive to work in it anymore. Have a great Thursday, enjoy your book!

  3. Your header photo was the best medicine for me this morning. LOVED it. We're expecting 3 inches of snow tonight. I have been driving a porcelain bus, battling the flu and losing. So-oo sick. Feel horrible. Don't know when I'll be back again to comment. take care.

  5. Love the pic! Hee hee hee! We got a little snow here overnight, but nothing major. And of course, my place of business never closes.

I haven't gotten a reader yet but I still have close to 2,000 books here in the house so there's never a shortage of anything to read.

  7. I'll be honest. Initially, I thought 'I wonder why Donna has a vibrator on her header....' and then I saw the aliens.

I like Sue Grafton. Maybe I'll start with A and reread her books.

  9. Love the picture! I love Sue Grafton and put myself on the reserve list st the library. i just can not get excite about e-books. I love the feel of a book in my hand, the texture of the pages, the bookmark, the smell....I just can't get on the e-book band wagon just yet.

  10. I have V on my holds list at the library. I'm not sure if they have the e-book version at my library. Darn!! We are expecting snow next week, but it doesn't look serious. High temps in the mid-high 30s so it won't stick around.

  12. Hear hear! Frequently I will sit down in front of the TV and start at the top of the guide and flip through and there literally is NOTHING I am interested in looking at. And that's nothing on a lot of channels. I am glad that my interest in reading has returned. I've read a few of the early alphabet Kinsey Millhone books. There was great interview with Grafton on the Sunday Morning program a long time ago. She said she got her inspiration for some of the bad guys from her ex-husband.

  13. Up here in northern MN we have just a skiff of snow too, and I worry about my sewer and water lines with the colder temps starting now. Clear down to -3 which is not cold compared to what we usually have in January. I love holding my books yet and I dont' think you can have too many books ahead to read. Ha! I have not gotten on the E-reader kick yet, probaby cause I can't afford one :-) Have a good weekend. Enjoy your headers too. Wendy

  14. During the night our temps really dropped as well. Right now we're at 29 and not expected to get any warmer. I'm glad I don't work outside! No snow. We haven't had snow since Halloween. That's fine with me. Have a good day.
