What has happened to our country?

Many of us saw a day like yesterday coming, but all we could do was watch.  Now I understand how Hitler came to power; I've seen it happen.  A man who spent his time ranting on Twitter held the power to start World War III, and we stood by helplessly while those who could have stopped him did nothing.

We watched Nero fiddle while Rome burned.

I do not believe that everyone who voted for Trump would have chosen to storm the White House yesterday.  I hope and pray most people who have put their hopes in the President all this time and voted for him a second time would not have acted in that way.  The Trump voters I know are kind people, the sort of folks who would help someone down-and-out, people who are law-abiding and love their neighbors.  My husband voted for Trump, but he was shocked and ashamed at what was happening at the White House yesterday.  He just wanted a change, someone who would listen to the common man.  Because let's face it, politicians don't see the faces of the common people very much.  They pander to those who have money and influence, those who will make deals with them that further their agenda.   Those outlaws at the White House were no doubt a fringe group.

Like it or not, Social Media has fueled this whole thing.

  2. I can't believe what Trump did yesterday. He has no common sense at all.

  3. Like you, I've seen this day coming from a long way away. This year it became common for peaceful protests to turn into looting and burning stores along with a general disrespecting of law enforcement. When we allow stuff like that to happen with no apparent repercussions, it is quite easy to imagine a crowd like yesterday pushing past law enforcement and looting the capital. I'm sure someone will point out that one group had the moral authority to loot and cause mayhem but in my eyes, it is never right to destroy other peoples property to prove a point.

  4. It was a sad day for our country and hopefully now some unity will come out o this mess. We need to stand together not fight with each other.

  5. It was sedition, pure and simple, fueled by a malignant narcissist who has been enabled by way too many people. We need to go back to the Fairness Doctrine where media couldn't lie with impunity. That's created a whole web of disinformation and too many credulous people who believe it.

Donna, I agree that social media played a huge role and will continue to do so. Unfortunately we can't turn that clock back. What happened yesterday is a symptom of a much larger problem that I'm not sure can ever be solved. Lord help us all.

  7. Yesterday was just a continuation of this past summer, when businesses burned, store were looted, and police cars were torched. Unfortunately yesterday is in the limelight when this past summer should have been but wasn't. I did a whole blog entry on this. Of course it wasn't the bulk of Trump voters who did this... is was only what.... maybe 300 people? We have to ask ourselves why these folks felt they needed to do this. We figured it out this past summer but apparently no one wants to ask the question now. Ah well.... if I could move I would but I'm too old now. I heard New Zealand is wonderful, just like a 1950s America. ~Andrea xoxo

  8. These are really sad times. I'm still terribly upset. And for those who compare the BLM marches to this - the BLM marches weren't sedition. They weren't trying to overthrow the government. There's a big difference there.
