bad news, good news

When Cliff had that quadruple bypass over four years ago, he stopped working overtime at work when it was offered.  We didn't really have to have the extra money, and after that little scare, he appreciated every bit of time he could keep for himself.  You can get more money in this life, but you can't get more time.  That's been our philosophy; and when, once in awhile, Cliff would mention that he perhaps should go in on his day off, I'd talk him out of it.  He has not worked a single hour of overtime in four years.
Last night he got hit with a new rule they've made at his place of employment:  Everyone MUST work at least two days overtime a month.  Now we'll only have two three-day weekends per month instead of four.
The good news is that Cliff's tractor fund is getting pretty low; that extra twenty hours per month will pump some life back into that fund at a pretty good rate.  I told him we'd consider every penny of the overtime pay as his tractor money.
So he feels somewhat better about the situation.

  1. Jesse has been working overtime for the past month or so.... he gets one day off a week. Sure, the extra money keeps up caught up on bills, but as it is now, he's just a guy who comes in and eats my food and sleeps in my bed. Meh. :-/

  3. I hate it for him, because I sure hate overtime! There's nothing like being at home! Thankfully he can enjoy the money for tractoring...

  4. That is a lot of extra hours. I hope that is not too much work put on Cliff. At least you've found a bright side to it. Now his days off will be even more precious and so will that tractor fund.

  5. I don't think I've ever heard of a place demanding that people work overtime, but I guess it happens. I think I'd look at the bright side since some folks don't have jobs and the economy being the way it is right now. Hoorah for money for his tractor fund! He'll enjoy that!

  6. Glad he has a job as well as a great name.
One of my brothers has been crop dusting for forty some years. The video was neat. Thanks for posting it.

  7. I swear I read on your blog that you spend $75 a week on groceries for you and Cliff - it that true? If it it can you put your grocery list up and how much you pay? David and I were trying to figure out how you get away so cheaply - is it because you grow your own meat and vegetables?
