Gardening

Last year I planted parsley, oregano, and basil next to my porch where it would be handy.  I was surprised to find that parsley winters just fine.  Today I cleared a spot near it to plant dill and basil; as I was clearing weeds, I made a delightful discovery:

The oregano came back!  I almost pulled it for a weed, but it looked familiar to me so I smelled a leaf.  Now I'm wondering if last year's basil will do the same.

The grass had invaded the four-year-old strawberry patch to such an extent that I told Cliff to just mow it all; I started a new patch elsewhere.  He was going to mow it, but when he saw a few blooms he just didn't have the heart to do it.  So I pulled up a lawn chair the other day and pulled grass for about a half-hour.  I suppose we will get a few small berries from it.

It's looking more like a garden out there!

  2. Your garden LOOKS GREAT. I keep my herbs in containers by my front porch. The basil and other stuff did NOT come back. But some of my rosemary did. I've already planted and things are doing well. I added sage, oregano, parsley and thyme too. LOVE fresh herbs. Wishing you luck with yours. take care.

  3. Excellent! I'm hoping that my husband can plant tomatoes and beans, if he's up to it. That is the extent of our garden. :)

  4. It's a delight for me to watch your garden grow. We do have some herbs in our flower beds, lavender, oregano, chives, mints of different varieties, but most is flowers or bushes. No vegetable patch here. I've planted parsley several times and it's not come back for me. We do have a much colder climate though. Nice to see those strawberry blossoms too. Hope your Saturday is a super one!

  5. One positive thing for having a mild winter, eh? When I was mowing the other day my yard smelled good and was oddly purple. Lavender, lilacs and wild violets. Plus the plum tree was blooming like crazy. Combine that with the scent of fresh mown grass and it smelled pretty dang good.

  6. Laura and Erin love Rhea! Laura uses her recipes and so does Erin. I don't use too many recipes...All the Sisters, excepting AZ Sister, mainly just throw just in and try it. Even when we try to go by a recipes, we often veer off and throw in a little extra something.

I am going to retire at the end of this school tern. It will be 40 years for me and I am having trouble going this year...so in 8 weeks I will be like Cliff. I think I can find enough to do ...if not I will get a job and draw my retirements.

I enjoy your blog. I hope your little girl is going to be ok. I must confess, I have stayed away as I almost could not stand to even peek to see what was going on...but sure hope it will all be good.

AZ Sister's cancer was stage 4 and in the lymph...hope you have better news.
