Cheap computers

Look at those prices! (Click on the picture to read the prices.)

My present desktop computer has lasted longer than any I've owned (knock wood). Two years has been the lifespan of my others, I think in part because of no air conditioning and all the gravel-road-dust that came in our open windows. Perhaps now that we've changed all that, my computers will all have longer life-spans.

Dell always has remarkable deals this time of year, but I just can't believe how low the prices are these days. $279 for a new desktop with 320 GB hard drive? Unbelievable! Check it out HERE. (No, this isn't a paid advertisement; I'm sure other brands have equally good deals.)

I think we paid almost $1,000 for our first computer with a six GB hard drive.

I would go ahead and buy myself a new computer right now just because it's hard to pass up a bargain, but my desktop does everything I want. I can't think of a single excuse to get another. Besides, I'm hoping this one lasts until they replace Vista with something better.

  2. I felt the way you do about Vista... until I was forced to get a new laptop and it came with Vista, now I actually like it. It's stable, it's pretty. I don't know if I would like it if I was running minimum specs, but with 4 gb of Ram, a decent harddrive and 64bit vista, my machine just screams along even with all the 'eye candy' turned on. Vista had a lot of problems 'out of the gate' which is NOT excusable for a major software, but it's come a long way.

All that being said.... I'm really liking what I see of the new Windows 7. It seems like they have fixed a few of the resource hogs in Vista and tightened up. From what I am reading though, under the hood it is still basically vista.

  3. I've been thinking of a new laptop myself. My desktop has lasted almost two years, and it seems to be a good one, so I can't really see buying a new one. But my laptop is older and keeps giving me trouble. I've seen some really good deals on Dell and Acer laptops.

  4. P.S. Oh, and I don't want Vista, either!
