My next computer

I have a desktop and a laptop. Both are around three years old (incredibly old age for computers that suffer through the wear-and-tear and ignorance mine do) and have had current tuneups; they're working fine; whatever little glitch the laptop had seems to be gone.

As long as they're working, they have a home. But whichever one breaks down next is going to be replaced by a Mac. I'm already window-shopping online so I'll be prepared. My daughter has used a Mac laptop for a long time, so she'd be able to advise me in the transition. I'm sure many of my readers could give me some tips... Hyperblogal, for instance, who gave me this piece of advice in a recent comment:

"Donna, I can tell from your love of life, your sense of humor and your willingness to embrace technology to convey all of the above.... that you are a MAC person trapped in a Microsquish world. You must plan now to leave the dark side, come into the light and exit the virus ridden, pop up message world that is MS. There is still time, but you must accept the truth. 9 years running... no viruses over here.

Thanks for the invitation, sir. As long as our current prosperity continues on this homestead, my plan is to "leave the dark side" when one of these antiques crashes permanently. With the present economy like it is, of course, things could change; I might be forced to buy one of those cheapo Dells at Walmart when the need arises.

Otherwise, I'm coming to join you.

  3. Both of my sons are mac users and love it. I am thinking of changing too but I am in the same mindset as you are with my running mircoPC. When it goes......then I will consider the change...I have my eye out there looking too.

  5. Wow... is it true... can it be that Mac users don't get virus stuff ever? I have to research this some more and here more testimonials. LOL. Let me know for real seriously if you hear more people claim to no virus problems on a Mac. Gosh I don't even know what a Mac is anymore with all the time I've been on windows.... hmmmmm.

  6. I have windows and I have never had a virus either. Macs do get them. The secret is keep active anti virus, a firewall and anti spyware. I keep my computer clean.

  7. Eh! I want a iMac (not a laptop but the iMac desktop), but I want it because it is pretty and has that built in 24" screen, not because a Mac works better. But, I will probably be staying with a windows machine unless the prices come down.

Oh, and I don't have any problems with viruses and things, but I stay on top of all of that and don't usually go anywhere where I would pick anything up.

  8. Doc has a Mac and loves it. I hate it! He never gets viruses because he can't get half of the things that people send him. Most things are geared for windows and it takes a lot of time to figure how to format them to MAC. I send him pictures and he can't get them so I have to resend them in an email; one by one. He LOVES his Mac. I only like MAC and cheese! 'nuff said? Abbe
