Rethinking Cliff's new work schedule

Added later: I was an hour off on his working hours. He'll work 4:30 PM to 3 AM.

Cliff was so happy telling me about his upcoming four-day work-week that I got caught up in his excitement.

Later, after he'd gone to work, reality hit me.

He'll be leaving for work at 4:30 in order to clock in at 5:30 P.M.

He'll be getting off work at 4 A.M., arriving home at 5.

If he goes straight to bed, which is what he's always done on his 3:30 PM to midnight shift, he'll be sleeping until noon or so. He'll be a day sleeper. Sadie mustn't bark. I mustn't drop things in the kitchen.

He'll be going to bed about the time I get up for the day.

In order to make full use of those three-day weekends, Cliff would have to get on a whole different sleep schedule for the duration of the weekend, then switch back for the work week. That isn't an easy thing to do.

Then there's the issue of meals. Breakfast at noon, or before going to bed in the morning? Two meals eaten at work?

I hope this whole thing works out.

I hate change. But of course, in the current job climate, I'm not stupid enough to complain. After all, he does have a job, and it's a good one.

  1. Wow. It is indeed going to be tough on the body to adjust to be somewhat nocturnal.

Yet with a strong will, we can accomplish a lot of things.

Glad to know that he has a job and a good one too amid this horrible economic times. It is not so fortunate with many and many more will succumb to the down turn.

It is just painful that it will affect the little ones in the family, but survive we must!

    Have a good weekend.

  2. G used to work a 4 day work week... but his was 6 am to 5pm. He really liked it, but there were times it seemed like that all he did on those 4 days was work and sleep!

  4. The time change can be a bit of a stinker...that's what I'm doing now 3 days a week and in truth it eats up a full four days of daylight. But it's what we have to do right now and so far I'm happily situated in a quiet environment during my work nights...there is a lot of lag time and I take things to do such as knitting, reading, writing, etc. It's hard our me physically if I can't getenough sleep, but with my daughter gone to her own place now, we have a better shot at it. Maybe the dog will learn to nap some with Cliff as he sleeps? :)

  7. OMG:
Penny post card and three cent letter postage. Your card collection is priceless letting conscientious heir's look it our (oldsters) pasts for days of old once lived. Priceless!
Gosh, I remember seasonably working ten/eleven/twelve hours a day as much as seven days a week on do or die construction job deadline.
Frieda used to get the kids up for my breakfast before my one hour one way drive; and, she'd keep them up until I had returned home and had supper with them. She said, she wanted our kids to know who their father was.
Me thinks it was more like she wanted me to know I had kids. };D
Those were the days of our easy living. It'll be a decades again before our great grand children will ever see those days again.
