pictures from todays ride

There's a group of abandoned houses and outbuildings down toward the Missouri River where my horse, Blue, and I love to nose around. Here are a few shots from today's ride. (hint: click on ANY of these pictures to make them larger.)

Someone lived here once.
Perhaps a smokehouse?

This has to be the outhouse (or toilet, where I come from).

Somehow this little handle-less coffee cup made me sad. Don't you wish it could talk?

The same with this Maxwell House (good-to-the-last-drop) coffee can.

Blue waits while I make a pit stop....... and I wait while HE makes a pit stop. (Talk about your action photos... this is a shot of Blue peeing, from my view on the saddle.)

  1. Uh, I want your life. I love reading your blog. I'm a ghost town/abandoned home romantic. I love love love pondering who lived there, what holidays were like, what celebrations and tragedies were experienced, etc. Your comment about the teacup and coffee can? I totally related.
    Blessings,

  2. I loved the tea cup in the leaves. Do you think that second one could be a hen house? I just saw that basket and thought "eggs". :)

  3. ohhhh.. There isn't enough time for me to fully express how jealous I am! I only hope one day I'll be able to at least find an affordable stable and learn how to ride, because even with all the reading I do, I don't think I'd ever trust myself to own and care for a horse on my own. You're so lucky! :)

I love the view from the saddle pic. Now if those of us that ride could communicate to others the awkward feeling under our behinds when our trusty friends need to relieve themselves the other way.

Love the pics..and that coffee cup especially!

  5. great view from the saddle. different to those I take! But then Thor does't like to pee when he's ridden. So he always goes as he's coming up the field.

  7. I was always afraid of horses, so the pony around in a circle as a child was it for me. We moved 2 years ago into an area that is big on horses. I really don't see many people riding, but I am only on the main roads, but it seems like such a peaceful thing, well, until I read Tonya's comment. . . Love your pictures, they really convey that overall peace.

  8. great pictures! the tea cup is sad. I also wonder what it would say if it could talk...

How close are you to the river? You have some fun areas to ride in it looks like!

Blue even looks away while you make your pit stop! Scooter always has to stand as close to me as he can get until I tell him to give me some space, geesh.

I want to come to MO and ride w/ you!

  9. I'm jealous. What a lovely ride. I love exploring abandoned homes and farmsteads. So much to see, so still, so much to think about. Beautiful.

  11. I am so getting the itch to ride after viewing your photos but alas we are still in -20* windchills so that lets that out for now. My horses like to come back in the barn to pee on the nice soft shavings and then go back out in the pasture. They even go in each others stalls so that they don't mess up their own stall. I think they have caught a little OCD from me!
