I've known for a long time that cats love boxes. Every time the UPS man comes, Unique and Butchie think it's Christmas. However, I learned something new with my last shipment: They like it better if they find a lot of messed-up, noisy, thoroughly wrinkled paper inside the box.
Now here I am. It's the beginning of a new day, and I'm watching them once again, playing with the same box and paper.
In a world of school shootings, cities burning, wars, and inflation, I can put all my sadness on the back burner while I'm watching these silly cats.
We used to put a box or a paper sack on the floor and take bets on how long it would take before the first cat jumped into it. We also did things like putting tape, sticky side up, or ping pong balls, etc. on the bottom of the sack or box to spice things up. It never seemed to deter their curiosity for subsequent boxes.
ReplyDeleteYes, I put various things in boxes for them also. You never know what they will play with and what they will ignore.
DeleteThey are getting so big!
ReplyDeleteYes, especially Butch.
DeleteIt’s been quite a while since I have had cats. I love them. Thanks for sharing their antics. Maybe a short video? Blessings, Penny
ReplyDeleteThe trouble about getting videos is that the cats often don't want to cooperate. They see me with the camera and stop everything they're doing.
DeleteI've bought toys for this kitten. What does she prefer to play with? The bread twister i accidentally dropped, a Christmas bow, a random dust bunny she dredged up from behind the live seat... It's what they do. Rebecca in SW MO
ReplyDeleteBoth of these cats like to play with water bottle caps Cliff throws on the floor for them. They seem to deliberately send the caps flying under the refrigerator or the kitchen stove, or under the doors, and expect me to find them.
DeleteI would be much happier if I resisted watching the news and watched my fur babies play instead. I will not be posting any more. I may start a new blog in the future, but for now I will be silent. My ex-daughter-in-law is stalking me. I don't know why she is so determined to know my family's business other than to use any knowledge she gleans to use against my son. She is a very manipulative person, and my son is very caring. She found it easy to leave him almost penniless and then keep taking him back to court because she said the $3000 a month was not enough. He has recovered financially, and she is upset as the girls are leaving home and off to jobs and college. She bankrupted her mother and tried to destroy her first husband, as well. We are well rid of her, and I hate that she is still making changes in my life. I will continue to follow all my favorite blogs and will issue you an invitation when I get all set up. It is a given that I won't be able to give up writing!
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry she's ruining something that you love to do, and you always have such interesting topics on your blog. I'll be watching for you to let me know when you start up again.
DeleteI love that last picture. The cat was so traumatized by you taking their toy away that the poor thing had to sleep on it to prevent it from happening again. Don't ever give them a box with packing peanuts. Don't ask me how I know this.
ReplyDeleteI can only imagine!
DeleteCats do love to play, even old ones. They are a huge distraction! (which we sorely need these days)
ReplyDeleteThey give me something to laugh about.
DeleteI throughly enjoy seeing cats loved and happy! Warms my heart 💜 Gabby Gengler
