So tired of the cold

FINALLY I can see that there is a two-week warming trend ahead.  Yesterday morning we had 8 below zero for the low, with a wind making it seem even colder.  There have been several near zero nights lately.

The back porch, where the cats sleep at night, is usually about ten degrees higher than the outside.  But night before last, I decided to be nice to them:  I dragged the litter box and the old cooler that we turned into a winter cat-bed, into the tiny laundry area.  We have to go through that space to get to the cat-room, so I didn't have far to move things.  Before I went to bed I put them in there; I figured they would be grateful for being in a room that would at least be fifty or sixty degrees, and they weren't making any noise... until I woke up at 3 A.M.  The kitchen is next to the laundry area, and the cats heard me walking around.  After that there was nothing but solid "meows".  I don't choose to have the cats and the dog with me until six in the morning, so I decided the felines would have to be in that cold, cold back porch (Gabe sleeps by my bed in his cage).  They were so happy to have their own place back, you wouldn't believe it.  When I let them out at six, they had been in their cooler cat house sleeping.  It seems they'd rather freeze than be in a tiny area with nothing but a washer and dryer to climb on.

Be it ever so humble, there's no place like home!

It's been so cold, my dog Gabe has quit fighting me when I put his sweater on to go outside.

There's still plenty of snow around, but there were days when it would melt a little, so now I can walk on the snow and my feet don't even break through the top crust.  There for a while, when I went out to feed and water the goats, every step I took, my feet would break through the hard top of the snow; that makes for very difficult walking.  I have been careful about getting around outside, because I don't want to break any part of this old body of mine.

Well, as they say, everybody talks about the weather, but nobody does anything about it.  That's about all I can do lately.  I am totally ignoring politics and doing my best not to hear anything that is said about politics.  Thank goodness for streaming services.  There's a new hospital series on Max/HBO, The Pitt, that I like, and I hope they keep it going after this season's seven-episode run is over.  The trouble with streaming, though, is that aren't many episodes in a season.  So by the time the next season comes up, I've forgotten what was happening the year before.

Sorry for my grumpiness; I'll be more optimistic after I can get my daily walks again.

THE OPTIMIST fell ten stories,
And at each window bar
He shouted to his friends below,
" I'm all right so far. "

I feel this! We have not been as cold down here in SW MO, but still in the single digits at night, and only getting into the teens or lower 20s for a few days. I am weary of the frigid cold. We always bring the dog in when it gets super cold, but she has be shut up in the bathroom because she doesn't have enough sense to leave the cats alone. The dog and I have been missing our daily walks as well; even she isn't enthused about getting out in it. Rebecca in SW MO

I hope we have a better day today.” We can complain because rose bushes have thorns, or rejoice because thorn bushes have roses.” ― Abraham Lincoln

Politics has pushed me down so low I wonder if I will ever rise.
