Somewhat disgruntled

Every once in awhile, I get a little depressed with the world situation.  OK, make that VERY depressed, at least lately.  I've stopped watching most news on television, except occasionally Lester Holt on NBC Nightly News.  He doesn't talk in such an angry voice as CNN and Fox newspeople do.  But I'm using BBC news on the computer.  My son told me one time that was the source he preferred, and I do find it more palatable.  For one thing, they are busy watching the royal family. That should keep them pretty busy, if they like soap operas.

Granddaughter Amber and her mom gifted me with a "cat tree" for Blue; their cats don't like it.  Blue lays in it some days; other times, not so much.  If he gets so he doesn't use it at all, I'll pass it on to someone else.  He's been all over the thing, but he still prefers Gabe's daytime bed, right beside my chair.  I've been pestering him to get him out and go to his tree (I've been using a spiral notebook to pet him and he gets tired of that pretty quickly.  When I finally got him out of Gabe's bed, he went over to Gabe's chair and seems to be thinking about taking a nap  ON the dog.

I keep saying I'm going to get rid of this ratty old recliner, but then where would Gabe sleep?

All the cat tree pictures were taken yesterday.  Blue isn't interested today.  He's still napping with Gabe.

Gabe has had some stomach issues yesterday.  Night before last he woke me up at midnight, very desperate to relieve himself.  I only gave him some plain cooked rice for breakfast.  I think it helped his problem.  At least he didn't have to wake me up last night.  This morning I gave him his usual dog food.

As for myself, I have a UTI.  The nurse-practicioner prescribed an antibiotic, but they also sent the sample away to a lab.  Now they say the prescription they first gave me isn't potent enough to kill this particular kind of UTI, so a nurse called and told me to go pick up a different prescription.  When I read some of the side effects on the new stuff (ciprofloxacin tablets), it made me wonder if I'd live through the cure!  I realize all the paperwork they staple onto your bag of drugs is scary, but this one puts the others to shame  I've taken two pills so far, one yesterday and one today:  So far my tendons haven't broken (how does a tendon break?) and I haven't felt suicidal, nor have I had nerve problems in my hands, feet and legs.  But it says these can happen all at once!  And I can't forget the dizziness, according to the paperwork.  And it may affect other drugs I take.

Ain't life grand?

Yours truly,
The disgruntled blogger
Donna

  1. I wonder if Blue is trying to stay warm by cuddling with the dog. If Gabe doesn't mind it I wouldn't worry about things.

  2. Blue is a gorgeous cat; I love that he cuddles with Gabe. Mari is deprived and has no cat tree or scratching post. :) I follow the BBC as well. They don't have an ax to grind about U.S. politics, so are less partisan than other news sites. Sorry about the UTI. I had the same issue with a resistant bacteria and had to take augmentin. I don't remember if it had a bunch of side effects listed.

    1. Blue likes Gabe better than Gabe likes him, but they do get along pretty well. Gabe's jealousy is the biggest problem, but he has learned not to get too rough when they play together; Blue warns him by scratching or biting him. Silly dog is starting to be more careful with the cat, but I hear him yelp once in awhile and know the cat got him again.

  3. I'm a Lester Holt and BBC online news person too. I miss the days of Tom Brokaw.

    1. My favorite was Walter Cronkite. He got me through integration in the south and the deaths of two Kennedys and Martin Luther King.

  4. You have reason to be disgruntled today, Donna. Embrace it and walk thru it... we don't mind. We love you no matter what! :-)

Have you ever tried drinking apple cider vinegar to keep your urinary tract clear of bacteria? If you take baths, put the stuff in your bath water too. I tell this to everybody and they're amazed at the results. I learned in nursing school that nothing can survive & grow in an acid environment... not even bacteria in the urinary tract. So what you do is drink two big tablespoons or more of apple cider vinegar in a little glass of water before going to bed at night (after you've used the restroom for the last time before bed) and let that mixture sit in your bladder all night. It will clean out your bladder much like it does when you run a mix of vinegar & water thru your coffee maker, to clean & descale it. Then, a couple times during the day, put a little "shot" of vinegar into some water and drink it. Of course, drinking regular water throughout the day will flush your kidneys and bladder too.

If you take baths, put a couple *cups* of apple cider vinegar into the bath water and soak your body in it, getting real "swishy" with the water if you know what I mean. This helps also. The bathroom will smell like you're coloring Easter eggs but that smell will *not* stay on your skin.

Also, having a removable shower head helps as well, being able to rinse places that you have a hard time rinsing if the shower head isn't removable. Even after a bath, I always stand up and take the shower head and rinse myself off everywhere.

Hope this helps you. It has helped everyone I've told this to, over the years. Apple cider vinegar is magical. ~Andrea xoxo

    1. PS~ I like Skye News on YouTube. It's world news, if you don't mind sitting through everything, but they are very non-judgmental or partisan... as they know they shouldn't be when talking about the government in another country. It's only the facts and no more... plus you learn a lot about other places too.

    2. I had another reader tell me to use baking soda, which is the opposite of vinegar. That's interesting. I appreciate people who care about my health, but I really trust my doctors and our nurse-practitioner. I feel safe in their hands. I've always drank lots of water when I have a UTI. It used to be chronic with me, and I tried various home remedies. They've even learned now that cranberry juice doesn't do anything for bladder infections, and that used to be considered the best thing to take for it.

  5. There has been a recall on some brand of dogfood because it is making dogs sick and some have died. I can't remember the name. I love your kitty. He is so pretty. I love the picture of him laying with Gabe!

    1. Gabe gets Purina Pro Plan, recommended by several vets around here. I don't think I've ever seen any Purina dog foods put on one of those lists.

  7. I think Gabe is so cute. He appears to have a lot of personality. So does Blue. I am really a cat person. They usually take care of themselves,

  8. That looks like such a fun cat tree. Maybe they'll get to like it more later. I'm so sorry you're suffering from UTI. I had a rather bad case of it several decades ago to the point that I was bleeding. It was darn awful. Therefore I truly sympathize with what you are having to go through.
