Making pear honey

I have a confession to make:  Today I not only trespassed on property belonging to a local bank, I stole while I was there.  These are two never-trimmed-nor-tended pear trees, obviously breaking down with the weight of the pears on their branches.  The pears are obviously going to waste.
Such a travesty!  So I became an outlaw.  I took a couple of Walmart bags with me and went to commit my crime.  I glanced furtively around, wondering if anybody would turn me in.

Somehow I made it safely home with my ill-gotten loot.  I washed off my pears and cut up enough, I hope, to make eight cups of pulp, which is what my mother's recipe calls for.  I found other recipes for pear honey on the Internet, but none of them were quite like hers.

PEAR HONEY
Cut up pears, boil till tender with two to three cups water.  Do not peel.  When done, drain juice off to use for jelly.  (I won't be making pear jelly; my mother could never bear to throw anything away.)  Cool till you can rub through colander.  Mix eight cups pear pulp, eight cups sugar, and one can crushed pineapple.  Boil and stir till thick.

I will either can or freeze the resulting pear honey.

  1. Your photo will undoubtedly be appearing on post office walls very soon. I won't mention a word to anyone, as long as you save some of that delicious pear honey for me.
