Peppers in November

I'm still getting sweet peppers from my garden. It's Missouri, peppers aren't cold-tolerant, and we've had several frosts.

The plants wouldn't win a beauty contest...

... and the peppers are getting blight spots on them. But blight doesn't hurt humans; only plants.

I have lots of diced sweet peppers in the freezer from the summer harvest, but why start using those until I have to? You can see these are nice-sized in relation to the M&M machine behind them.
What's that? You've never seen a home-made M&M machine?

My sister's late husband made one of these for everybody in the family. When I look at it, I remember Russell fondly; he was a wonderful man.
But I digress. I'm making chili today; I particularly like the Better Homes and Garden recipe because it's healthy and low-fat. It contains more vegetables than meat, and I am a big fan of vegetables. Especially home-grown ones.

I'm using tomatoes I canned this year, and the meat is from our own steer (rest in peace, Meat Loaf).

There's an unusual chili recipe over at A Joyful Chaos that I'd love to try; I'll guarantee it's delicious, because the lady who does that blog is formerly Amish. We all know how well they can cook! However, it just doesn't have the veggie content of mine. If anyone is brave enough to try it, please let me know how it turns out.

I live in Belton and am still getting chili peppers and cherry tomatoes! I will go check out that chili recipe. I made one last winter that you added corn to. Now I can't find it and I really liked it!

BTW, I will not be trying that recipe. Sounds like a waste of ground beef! 8 cups of water? 1 cup of flour? only 1 tbsp of chili powder. I prefer a thicker, more spicy chili with lots of ingredients! I would never use flour as a thickening agent in chili, masa maybe.

  6. I have a homemade M&M machine that my brother and his wife made as Christmas gifts for each of us a few years ago. The one I have is made a bit different from yours, the M&M's dispense into one of those little round chicken feeders and it's spray painted gold with Christmas emblems glued on the canning jar. It's really cute.

Chili sounds great. I don't think we'd care for chili that has flour, ketcup, and brown sugar but you never know until you try it.
