Assorted things

I have some mashed potatoes left over from yesterday.  Gravy, too.  So I went to the shop and asked Cliff, "Would you rather I warm the taters and gravy up for our dinner, or make potato patties."
"Potato patties," he answered.  "I love potato patties."
I really thought he would want mashed potatoes warmed up, because he is always whining about not getting mashed potatoes often enough.  Anyway, as soon as he gave his answer, I started wondering whether I actually had enough leftover mashed potatoes to even make patties.
I didn't.  I was going to go out and break the news to him, but by that time I was really craving potato patties.  So I peeled the last potatoes in the house so I can mash more potatoes and turn them into potato patties.  Sort of strange, since potato patties are supposed to be a way to use leftovers.  But when I get a craving, common sense doesn't enter in to it.
I made an apple pie yesterday.  I started out with the intention of making two, one for us and one for our daughter's family.  Unfortunately, by the time I had peeled enough apples and made crust for one pie, I didn't want to do another one.  I only allow me and Cliff to have one piece of pie a day; his sister ate with us yesterday and had one piece, and I think the Grandson intends to stop by and have a piece today; so there's that many calories we won't be having.  These days I cut the pie into eight pieces instead of six.
The place next door is going on the auction block again, this time as a silent auction.  Bids start at $85,000.  Somehow I think it might do better as a silent auction, but what do I know?  I certainly do know it isn't worth $85,000 in my book.
Around here:

My babies are chewing their cuds and soaking up the sunshine.

Cliff works every day on his Oliver 550 project.

The tires and wheels are waiting in the wings.  They are ready!

Cliff hangs a CD disk up there to keep sparrows from nesting in the housing.  Iris' favorite thing is to chase the reflections the sun on the CD causes.  She will spend hours doing it, absolutely wearing herself out.

  1. I can just see Iris chasing that glint of light around the driveway. We bought a cheap laser pointer at Walmart and let DJ chase the "bug" around on the floor. It's lots of fun. She wants to get that bug so bad.... (grin)

  3. I use my leftover mashed potatoes to do patties too. Trouble being there are rarely any leftovers because I only make them when company comes. They sure do sound mighty good.
