Puppy playing with grumpy old dog

Iris isn't fond of other dogs, and Titan is no exception.  She does growl at him a little, but considering that she has attacked dogs in the past, she's showing a lot of restraint.  For her, that is.  Titan is fourteen weeks old; perhaps she realizes he's only a puppy, even if he is far bigger than she is.

  1. In this video Iris is the picture of restraint. She looks so-oo irritated at Titan's playfulness. You have got to give Iris credit for making nice and sharing the toys with the pup. WAY TO GO, IRIS! Like it or not you have a new friend.

  2. Poor Iris. My Daisy isn't always so restrained when it comes to they younger one. DJ is a lunatic and Daisy is old and grumpy like her Dad.

I loved that look of long suffering on Iris' face there.

    "Why me?"

  3. Our eight year old dog is enduring much the same torture from our ten week old puppy. I think the older dog would like it if we took the puppy back where he came from.

  4. Poor Iris!!!! That look she gives you in the beginning is so pitiful. Love Titan so cute and big!. Have a wonderful time with both dogs but I would love a little extra on Iris when the great grand puppy leaves everyday.

  5. That scene replays itself every day at my house. Gordo hates the new puppy. She keeps trying to make besties with him, though. All I hear all day long is 'grrrr'.....'grrrrr'......'grrrr'

  6. I Iris looks like she is a little afraid of Titan. She looks at you so pitiful as if to say "make him leave my toys alone" Titan is a live wire for sure. Helen

  7. Oh my! Titan is adorable, as is Iris. I know that look well - the look Iris is giving you. "Realllly....Why?! I had it so good here before this puppy!" lol. Hubs' new puppy, Goldie is quite a fireball too. Our two older dogs are rather crabby about the whole ding-dang situation! -Tammy

  8. I am sure Iris is used to being the only dog around and it'll take time for her to share and play...just like kids that get jealous of others, dogs do too. Older dogs do tend to want to play on their schedule not on what others may want to do. I've had all the grand dogs together at a time and there is a wide variety of ages, older ones seem to tolerate each other, the younger ones will play with who ever they can get to play.

  10. They usually do know when the other dog is a puppy, even if it's bigger. Also, the pup usually knows that the other dog is an elder, and the pup will act submissive in ways that perhaps we don't realize. So that's probably why Iris puts up with him more than she does with other dogs.
