About every day, once or twice, I find in my comment section some oriental characters. When it's left on an old entry, it doesn't post; I have chosen to not allow comments on any post over two weeks old, so I can look at the comment and reject it.
My Sitemeter tells me the spammer is in Taiwan, and that he/she/it comes from a blog that is seldom updated these days, one where there's a link to my blog.
Are any of you getting Asian porn links left in your comments? I think I will temporarily apply controls where readers have to type in a nonsense word in order to comment here. I hate to do that because I think it discourages comments; but who knows where those links would take you?
I agree! I noticed that when I commented awhile ago.
ReplyDeleteI haven't had any Asian porn links on my blog comments (yet!), but when I had my old journal on AOL someone used to leave porn links on my comments all the time. When I blocked their screen name, they simply started using a different name. I had to block about six or seven names before the problem was finally alleviated. It was extremely annoying!
ReplyDeleteI havaen't gotten them yet but always keep the option to review comments before posting them...if I do get any I'll go back to the word identification process before allowing comments. Thanks for the tip. It pays to be aware.
ReplyDeleteI got several of those comments last night and they went back several entry's so I could delete them out. It's a shame when that is all someone has to do to pass their time. Helen
ReplyDeleteI've been getting them lately on older entries, so I had to do the same thing....but then....I just got it on my most recent entry. stupid spammers....
ReplyDeleteI have not had any Asian porn; not yet at least. Add the "nonsense word". It just takes a second. And sometimes they are hilarious -- mine is "copstboo." One could have a bit of fun with that
ReplyDeleteI got some today too. I couldn't tell if it was porn, just that it was Asian and went on and on and on, with an occasional Arabic numeral. It's nice to know it's not just me, but other people.
ReplyDeleteI've had the Asian porn and other spam in the past, but not lately. Hope I didn't just jinx myself. I've had to use word verification before for that reason, but right now I don't have it enabled, though that could change anytime.
ReplyDeleteOne of the journals I read from England has had a problem. Just thought I'd let you know you aren't the only one.
ReplyDeleteI get them too on older posts, but it's not a good idea to check their link, it could be viral. They even get through word verify?
ReplyDeleteGuy, I don't normally use word verify because I think it discourages comments; however, I put it in place this morning and will leave it that way for a few days.
ReplyDeleteJust had one today for the first time. The only word I could read was sex at the bottom. Pitiful when that is all someone has to do.
ReplyDeleteYes I'm getting them on the same entry - every day I delete - every day it comes back. Did it work for you to just keep this from the older entries on your settings?
ReplyDeleteI added cannot accept anonymous and also set the word verification. I will do what you did too then. No comments on old entries.
I ghad them too for awhile. Comes in cycles i think.
