I voted

Don't worry, I'm not going to get political; anybody who has read this blog for a while has a good idea which way I lean; if you don't like my politics, just check out some of the blogs on my sidebar.  Several of those lean in the opposite direction.  I'm an equal opportunity blogger.
A couple of the decisions I made yesterday were difficult for me.  I won't mention one of them, because I'd be getting all political.  Let's just say I really didn't want to vote for that crook, but I felt I had no choice this year.
The one I will tell you about is this:  For the first time ever, I voted against Congressman Ike Skelton.  He's done an excellent job of listening to his constituents; he stands for most of the things I believe in.  He's a good man.
Unfortunately, he's been in office since 1976.  That's far too long.
We need term limits; since I haven't been given a vote on that, I'm voting against people who have been in office too long.  I have yet to decide how long "too long" is, but anything over fifteen years would surely qualify.

That's as political as I get.

  1. I don't think I'd care how long someone had been in office if they were doing a great job. There were many changes in our state government with this election and only time will see if these politicians can live up to their promises. I've not seen any yet that could. I voted too and am glad we live in a country that gives us that freedom.

  2. I voted also. I just pray that the newly elected do better than the previously elected!

  3. But how would you feel if Cliff, who has been hard working and dedicated employee one day went to work and his boss told him he had to go because he'd bee there too long and they'd rather have someone younger and inexperienced doing his job.

  4. Guy, Cliff isn't an elected official. The longer those people have been in office, the more graft and trading of favors goes on. Besides, Ike is old; he needs to retire and go on a cruise or something.

I voted for one Dem & 3 Republicans. That's enough to have some people firebomb my house..but I am okay with that.
I'm not looking to view the vista from a mountaintop I did not climb.

  6. KC Star: What expenditures would you cut if elected Ms. Hartzler? Answer: "Well I believe we can cut the Lady Bird Highway Beautification funding. Local gardeners can take care of that." You turned down Ike for that????

  7. Yes, Dave, I did. And the only reason, truly, is that I don't think anybody should set up camp in a political office for that long. It had nothing to do with the current administration, that's for sure. I hated the TV ads aimed to hurt him... HATED them. They were lies. That's why it was so difficult for me to vote for the person responsible for the ads.
    But I did.

  8. Without getting political, I feel ethically compelled to vote for the person who I feel can do the best job, according to my values. That may be the new person or it may be the one already in office. I don't like to gamble.

Our founding fathers never intended for people to make a career out of serving this country. They considered it an honor, not a career. I believe 2 terms is plenty for all of them. And yes I voted against Ike who I have liked for many years.
