The hoist project is finished.

Recently I shared pictures of Cliff erecting a structure intended to support the bargain-priced hoist he bought last spring at a swap-meet.  It needed some work, but Cliff got it working in no time.
My daughter happened to be here to take a picture the day Cliff actually got the hoist raised to its intended spot.

That plastic barrel is to house the hoist when it isn't in use and protect it from the elements.

Here you see Cliff putting the hoist to use.  When he's done using it, he'll slide it back into its little barrel-house.
By the way, Cliff never wore shorts until he was past fifty; then we started walking for exercise, and I convinced him he'd be much cooler if he'd wear shorts.  For a period of two or three years, he did wear them; then he gained weight, they no longer fit him, and he stopped wearing shorts again.
This year, with one-hundred-degree temperatures for so long, he decided to be brave and buy some shorts.  He's still uncomfortable wearing them in public; he says he feels silly having people see him like that.  I guess that's because he never wore them for so much of his life.  Nowadays unless he's doing something outside or in the shop (weed-eating, welding) that dictate his legs be covered, if it's hot, he's wearing shorts.

  1. That hoist looks to be a pretty handy thing. Ken never wore shorts either until about 3 years ago. Sometimes he even sneaks off to Walmart wearing them. Something I never though I would see him doing LOL. Helen

  3. My dad is older than Cliff, but I don't think I've ever seen him in a pair of shorts. My husband is younger and rarely wears shorts. He did in Hawaii once, but the next time we went, he refused to.

  4. Glad Cliff decided to wear the shorts and be comfortable. You rarely see a man that doesn't wear them these days. My dad was one of those that never did and I don't know why. It's much cooler here today...feels wonderful.

  5. Great, now my Hubby wants one of those hoist now. lol! My dad is the same way when it comes to shorts. He's not real comfortable in them. But just to joke I always ask him, " Are those your legs, or are you riding a chicken?" LOL

  6. The hoist looks great. Good job Cliff. My hubby NEVER wears shorts no matter how hot it is. He's only recently begun wearing short sleeve shirts. He did not want his arms exposed. I kid you not.

  8. The man is a genius. There's been many a time I needed something like that and had to make do with jacks. Always scared me crawling up underneath something heavy with just a flimsy jack holding it.

If it's warm at all, I'll be out in shorts and a sleeveless shirt. I like having the air and sun on my skin. Plus I'm prone to getting too hot and I need all the cooling help I can get.
