Goldfinches

I do believe I'm enjoying goldfinches as much as I do the hummingbirds! There's one or two of the bright yellow-and-black males at my feeder most any time, and I have counted as many as eight gathered around.

From what I understand by way of the Internet, it looks like my goldfinches are going to pair up and leave for awhile in July or August to raise their families; they will be sorely missed. When they return, they won't be gold again until next year.

They like Niger seed, which makes it costly to keep them in food. But their color and their behavior is worth it. I do hope they stay around for the winter.

  1. We have had a few gold finches at our feeders, but I think they were just passing through as they like it in the country better than the city. When it comes to entertainment, nature of most any form just can't be beat. The cost is well worth it.

  2. They are pretty. I believe that is what I saw one day here. I loved them. They flew out of a tree never to be seen again - about a month ago.

  3. Beautiful birds. Hope they will be safe if they stay with you in winter.

With good food you're providing, I think they will enjoy the season.
