If you could meet any living person, who would you choose?

I've seen this question posed time and time again.  I have thought of various people I admire, thinking how nice it would be to meet them.  Then I realize I wouldn't know what to say to them if I met them.  I'd be so tongue-tied, I would be wasting my time with any of those idols of mine.

Last night Cliff and I were watching Youtube videos of old country music entertainers, and I suddenly realized I had found the one person I could meet; the one who, if I became tongue-tied, would talk to me until I felt comfortable.

Willie Nelson.

We've seen him perform in person.  He cares about his audience.  We love him for that.  But watching a video of him singing back in the old days before he became "an outlaw", back when he was a Baptist deacon, I watched his face.  I watched his eyes.  I would be comfortable talking to him.

Here's the video that made me realize I really do want to meet Willie Nelson.  Be sure to look at that face, those eyes.  Watch closely.

  1. I've seen Willie just about more times than I've seen anyone else. Always a good show.

Who would I want to meet? Wow. That's a good question. Gonna need a minute to think about that.

Stephen Hawking would be right up there, but he's not much of a conversationalist.

I think I'm going to go with Elon Musk. I think he is the guy who is going to lead the way on our path to becoming a true spacefaring species. He is going to be the Henry Ford/Thomas Edison/Steve Jobs of space exploration and industrialization. Our only hope for long term survival is to get off this rock and spread out. I think he can make that happen.

  2. I would love to meet Willie. I like the comment above about Stephen Hawking. I'd like to meet Bill Gates too; he only lives an hour away from me. (but I never seem to run into him) :)

  3. Willie seems personable enough. I would probably like to meet Merideth Vierra or Katie Couric, since I wanted to be a journalist. I was a reporter for a local paper but not the same thing.

  6. There are very few people around nowadays who I'd want to meet. It seems like most of the interesting ones are deceased. Willie seems like a good choice, because he's such a genuine person (a rarity indeed).

Long ago my parents were traveling somewhere in Oklahoma and they stopped at a truck stop late at night. Willie Nelson's private bus was there but they never go to meet him.

  7. Funny you should mention Willie Nelson. A semi passed passed the house the other day hauling a trailer that, judging by the graphics, looked like was holding the equipment for a Willie Nelson tour. Sure is a different Willie than we are used to seeing. I'd like to meet the novelist Alexander McCall Smith/

  9. Willie's as good a pick as I can think of. He's always had an incredible ability to nail the pitch.

  10. Willie is on of the genuine greats. I think I'd opt to visit with either Gordon Lightfoot (again) or Leonard Cohen. Both in their mid-70's, like Willie, and ain't none of us gonna live forever.

  11. before he puffed on the wacky weed.
I wouldn't want to meet any of the so called stars. politics is my dish. Bill Clinton would be the no. 1 person I would like to talk to and I would ask him where was your brain with Monica, are you crazy?
