My bucket list has a hole in it

That's the title Cliff suggested for an entry about our vacation.  One entry at a time, I will tell you about a series of "Murphy's Law" incidents that I still cannot believe, even though I lived through them.
In the course of eight days, there were four nights that we couldn't get a room of any kind in the areas we were visiting.
We put Cliff's XM radio in the car before we left home so we could have music uninterrupted by commercials.  Somewhere in Nebraska it stopped working, and never worked again.  We now think it's the car radio that has the problem (XM radio plays through the car radio), since we can't get any stations on it.
We had to use the tent we only took along for emergencies.  The second night we had to sleep in it, it rained.  By the third day, it soured and mildewed and we threw it out.
The air mattress we bought last summer sprung a leak and we had to air it up three times nightly during the two nights we used it.  Two days later it soured and mildewed in the trunk, and we threw it away .
The GPS didn't work properly in Canada.
Thanks to someone we trusted writing us a hot check before we left, our checking account ended up with a $450 negative balance.  Way to ruin a vacation.  I am really hoping they didn't do it on purpose and will make it right.
In two places we planned to spend a night, there were huge events that had every motel filled for miles around.
I'm sure there is more, but you can see why I will have a lot of entries about our vacation.

Cliff's brother and his wife had intended to go along with us on this trip and help with the cost of gasoline.  God was watching out for them and us, because if they had gone, we wouldn't be speaking to one another by now.  There were times Cliff and I wondered if our marriage would survive the trip.
Stay tuned.

I guess the saying 'What doesn't kill you makes you stronger' must be true. Glad you & Cliff are still together. Can't wait for the blogs.

  2. Can't wait for the stories. You always tell a good story. That said, I'm sorry your trip had so many crap piles to dodge. Glad you both made it home in one piece ~

  3. Some vacations don't turn out like they are supposed to. My trip to St. Croix was great except for having to vacation a week with my ex. I can't STAND him!

  5. Oh, wow, this is amazing/terrible. Have you recovered your sense of humor yet? At least, you're still married? Did you see any great scenery? Eat good food? I can't wait to hear the stories.

  6. THANK GOD you are back home. When it rains it usually pours. That definitely sounds like the trip from hell. I hope after a little rest and relaxation you feel a little better about what did go right when you were there. take care.

  7. PS.)Next time BOOK reservations ahead so this kind of nightmare does not happen again. You still have alot of vacations left until you two kick the bucket. So don't let one lousy one ruin the future.

  8. If they book reservations, they are held to a schedule...something they were trying to avoid. The plan was to stop and go as they please.

Mother? Please don't divorce my father. I don't want to be a child of divorce!

  9. There's nothing like getting away on a wonderful vacation to forget your troubles!
The entire thing was a test - just to see if your marriage would last.
It did. And now you can look back and laugh about it.

(wait a minute. I don't hear any laughing.....).

I'm sure you'll need some time to recuperate!
