And I was so proud to have Medicare Advantage

Evidently, at this point Medicare Advantage isn't much of an advantage any more.  Click HERE to read the article.

"Now for the bad news: Seniors enrolled in Medicare Advantage may soon find their that benefits have been cut. Under changes contained within America's new health reform law, reduced payments to private insurers may lead to a reduction in benefits such as dental coverage and free eyeglasses. That could trigger an exodus from Medicare Advantage plans back to traditional fee-for-service Medicare, though at much higher costs."

OK, I didn't have the dental and eyeglasses coverage anyhow.  But I am definitely ready to call the guy who sold me on Medicare Advantage and see what's up.  Here's what really makes me uncomfortable.  I don't quite understand it, really; but it doesn't sound good:  "Yet in one change to the rules which has not been widely reported, people enrolled in a Medicare Advantage plan will no longer be able to switch to another Medicare Advantage program. Instead, they will have no option but to join the traditional Medicare program if they decide to leave their current plans because benefits have been reduced under the new law."

Somebody's getting sold down the river here, and I think that somebody is me.

  1. I got my medicare card when I was 65 because my insurance through where I worked required it. They put me on a supplemental plan that is supposed to cover what medicare doesn't. Thankfully I was able to continue that even though I'm now retired, but it costs me. It's the biggest bill I have each month. And I still have to pay the bucks to medicare. It comes out of my social security payment every month. I don't have dental or eyecare either. Those are things that will be paid for out of pocket on a needs to be basis. No more annual check ups for me at the dentist. There are downfalls to being retired, but I still wouldn't trade it for anything.

  3. I am not surprised to read this. I knew when they passed the health care bill that the chronically ill and seniors would get the shaft. Socialism at its best, I suppose. They are taking from the least financially able to help the rich stay richer. I've been ready to fire congress for a while. Blessings, Penny

I have been worried about Medicare for the past year. I am in the process of trying to figure out what to do as I turn 65 in Oct. I lose what was supposed to be a forever care from the military then. I am trying to get one surgery, (my knee) out of the way before then. I read that article this am and have not known what to do. I hate health insurance!

  5. And to think Obama had all the answers. Wrong!

I wage the war on that crabgrass too and my hands always have dirt in the dry cracks on my fingers. I just started using Burt's Bees Hand Cream so hope that helps. Even scrubbing them with a brush doesn't get all of the dirt out! Sigh.......
