It's been a great week

Cliff has so enjoyed working on his big tractor with Jim, and we always enjoy our yearly visit with our son and granddaughter. Next year the daughter-in-law will join them, come hell or high water... even if we have to change the dates of their visit to get that accomplished.

Thanks to Sugar for the flag day tag; not only is it flag day, it's also mine and Cliff's 43rd anniversary. Do you think we'll make it to the big golden anniversary?

Yesterday nephews came to visit and brought guns along; it was pretty noisy in our pasture, let me tell you!

Yes, it's been a great week. Lyndsay has been such a good girl, but we could tell she was ready to go home to her mom and her nieces and nephew. And her cat, of course. Here she is buckling up, ready to start the twelve-hour trip to Georgia.

My great-granddaughter

This is Natalie, my granddaughter, holding my great-granddaughter Kameron. The sock-monkey belongs to Lyndsay, my Georgia grandchild. Click to watch the video and see Kami talking to the monkey.

We're still getting rain every day, which puts a damper on some of the plans we had for Jim's visit.

After they took the muffler off the Oliver, Cliff and Jim kept running it up and down the road fast because when the turbo kicks in, there's a whistling sound they both enjoy hearing. Cliff may never put a muffler on that tractor again.

They've now fixed every little leak and each slight problem the old (1974) tractor had. Cliff's "winter project" has been taken care of in three days, with the enthusiastic help of our son. I think the only thing left for Cliff to do is paint it!

Yesterday Lyndsay helped me muck out the horse stall; she opened the gate for me each time I took the full wheelbarrow to the compost pile and back again. She also had a horseback ride on Blue in the round pen.

This morning, all is quiet, since Lyndsay spent the night at my daughter's house with her cousins; not that she's a noisy child. She's very quiet and well-mannered. Yesterday afternoon, I couldn't find her anywhere; but I know her well enough to be confident she wouldn't go anyplace she shouldn't. After much calling and searching, I found her in her dad's bed, sound asleep.

Cliff and Jim have already headed to the shop; who knows what they'll find to do today. I have turkey in the oven, and it smells great!

Be sure to vote in my poll on the right. I personally voted "no"; I'll be interested in seeing what the majority of you think.

I guess I'll stay with Blogger

No big surprise there, eh? I do miss my "followers" widget; one suggestion about that was to move it to the bottom of my sidebar, so I may put it back and see if my relatives can still get to this blog with it in a different location.

I've spent the last hour at Wordpress trying to figure out how to remove "categories" from the sidebar, with no luck. This old dog doesn't like learning new tricks, so I'll probably delete that blog.

That's granddaughter Lyndsay, with my son's work van. They were already loaded up and ready to come visit us yesterday evening. The daughter-in-law couldn't get off work to join them. I don't envy my son the twelve-hour drive from Columbus.

family time

Our son, from Georgia, has been here since last Saturday, and will stay until Sunday morning. He and Cliff have spent lots of quality time in Cliff's shop, doing chores that they both seem to enjoy. We're babysitting Cliff's sister's hubby's Mahindra tractor, so Cliff and Jim have replaced its vital fluids and walked around the beast, admiring it's bulk and power. Yesterday, with rain coming toward us, Cliff washed it until the red paint positively shone. He washed the Sidewinder mower, too. My youngest granddaughter stepped in some mud made by the half-inch of rain that was supposed to go north of us, so Cliff told her to toss them in a bucket so he could wash them. The girl has half-a-dozen pairs of shoes here; I'm sure she has more at home. Can you see the granddaughter in this picture? This mobile home has three bedrooms, but I turned one into my computer room. Our couch makes a bed, but we found that Lyndsay is awakened easily once we're all awake chatting around her. So I put an air mattress in the computer room floor for her and whoever is staying the night with her. Anyway, Lyndsay is actually on the floor between the mattress and the bookcase. See?

Oh, last night we got more rain. A full inch, this time. I wish I could share with someone who needs it.

Lyndsay has been riding Blue in the round pen; she's quite the cowgirl. To see a video of her riding, click HERE.
