Dysfunctional

The holidays do seem to bring out the "dysfunctional" in the families, don't they?
We all do the little dance, trying to invite the proper folks so that no feelings will be hurt.
We juggle the invitations, trying to decide which one we should accept so as to hurt the fewest feelings.
Of course, the person with more than one invite wonders whose feelings will be hurt when she picks one.

And we wonder why people get depressed during the holiday season?  Give me a break.

  1. Oh boy Mosie I just had this conversation with John this afternoon. He gets all paranoid every holiday season. Why does it have to be Thanksgiving to eat turkey or not? There are so many divorces, remarriages, step kids, real kids it gets right down un-fun. lol I told him I would really like to go to the beach and walk in the sand and think about the real meaning of the holiday.

  2. This REALLY resonates with me this year. I'm spending too much time on eggshells and feeling angry/cranky about it all. I just want to enjoy the holidays. Is that too much to ask??

  3. We spent a lot of years dancing that dance. Now? Screw it. We'll go where we go. I love you as much today as I will on Christmas morning, so try not to be offended if I don't see you on Christmas morning.

    There. I said it.

(But I probably *will* see you on Christmas. LOL)

  5. Have your celebration. Don't worry about toes you accidently step on. They'll get over it. It's the nature of the beast. Holidays bring out the best in people, but they also bring out the worst. Take care. Everything will work itself out.

  6. I'm in a snit over my holiday prep this year. The "boys" at home promised to do the housework this weekend if I hosted Thanksgiving on Thursday. They didn't hold up their end of the bargain. Every year I swear I'm heading to Vegas for the holidays and next year, I might just do it.

BTW - I just finished catching up with you this week and gotta say - Cliff's shop is really cool. =)

  7. I never had to dance that dance because my family was in California and husband's was here in Alaska. Then his family moved out of state and we only have to field invites from well-meaning friends. Really, it is possible to have wonderful holidays with just two people, especially if you're as introverted as we are.
