Gate latches

We have two new gate-latches. These things cost around $18 each, but boy, are they ever worth it!

This gate doesn't have one yet; this is how we used to secure all our gates. What a pain, wrapping the chain around a post and fastening it back to the gate.

To open a gate, you just reach for that thingie...

and pull it up. The gate opens.

When you're done, you just give the gate a gentle shove and it locks itself. Amazing! Easy for humans to open, but impossible for animals.

I LOVE my new gate latches, and I love the man who bought them and installed them.

  1. We have gates like that, but I was too lazy to be wrapping the chain around the pole, so I got some double ended snaps and put an eyehole bolt in the pole. Then I just snapped the snap to the chain at the length I wanted and then to the bolt... I like your gate latch better though, how convenient to just let the gate close and it locks on its own!!

  3. I have them on three gates and I want to put them on all of them eventually. If they seem like they get hard to open just hit them with a squirt of WD-40.

  5. Midlife Mom, we got each of ours at a different farm supply store: one at Feldman's, and one at Orscheln's.
