mushroom hunters

Well, when you have a few acres in Missouri and it's morel season, you're always meeting new people. This guy and his friends happened to be in one of our hollers when I was walking Sadie today; I suggested they share their mushrooms with me, since they were on my land. This fellow was happy to oblige, but as I told him, that isn't really enough to fool with.
This guy obviously had more, but I didn't make an issue of it. He did apologize profusely, but I imagine they're still back there.

Their lady friend was a bit camera shy, and acted rather put out that I interrupted their expedition. I guess she doesn't like making new friends.

I wonder if my friend Tracy knows any of these folks.

some people who don't know the area very well tends to lose their way back to where they are suppose to be. I found plenty of people on my land and realize that mushroom hunters are no threat. Now instead of sneaking or wandering on my land I told them all they had to do was knock on my door and ask, I would gladly let them hunt mushrooms.

This is so funny in a way. All three of the people that were photographed look like they should you know (got thier hand cought in the cookie jar)Ok, on the serious side we all know that if you don't own it then it belongs to someone else and you seek that person out and ask for permission RIGHT?
I don't know what part of the country this is but my part of the country it's curtious to ask the owner I would rather take the time to find someone to get permission from as to have to explain the buck shot on my backside.

Oh my, you are already in morel season? I LOVE mushrooms and my brother is such a great "hunter". He comes home from his journeys with bowls and bowls of them and he usually shares with us and my parents, or sometimes my mom will have a mushroom and fish fry all in one night. There are 12 very happy people when we push away from gramma's table on those nights!

It is nice when people ask first if they can be on your property. Around here people pretty much go anywhere they want and nobody says anything about it. My brother likes to go mushroom hunting on state owned land and then there are no problems and the success rate is much higher if finding them.

Another thought....I have always been curious why it is termed "hunting"? We don't go out with a gun or anything, for some reason I just think it is a funny way to say it, but we always have said it that way and I see you do too. Maybe a better term would be "gathering mushroom" like we gather berries.

Gosh, I got long winded didn't I? Sorry!

    Blessings,

    Ellie
