A family gathering is happening tomorrow. You didn't plan it, but the big meeting is at your place, and that's fine. As it turns out, you really don't have to do much because other people are taking care of the meal; everybody loves grilled meats. Since God has blessed your garden by making it produce more cabbage than a town of 700 people could consume, you will be making cole slaw. That's it.
After all, you're still recuperating from surgery.
And then you realize that you ought to do something more, because you're pretty much recovered from the surgery. Nobody is bringing dessert, and you would be just the person to figure something out, using whatever is in the cupboard. After all, you live in the boonies and it's ten miles to the nearest store... and you don't drive.
If you had a yellow cake mix or a white cake mix, you could make a dump cake or Jello cake. Unfortunately, the only cake mix you can find is a chocolate one.
OK, if you had a can of pineapple rings, you could make an upside-down pineapple cake from scratch.
No luck.
If you had a package of Oreo cookies you could make some Oreo Delight.
But no, there are no Oreos in the house.
The only option left would be to bake chocolate chip cookies, peanut butter cookies, and/or brownies.
But the first two require brown sugar, and you only have enough brown sugar for one. Besides, cookies are SO much bother.
I'm such a loser these days.
