The problem with Windows....

You can click to make this larger; what it shows is how many problems have been discovered (and gotten rid of) in a relatively short time by Avira, my free antivirus. Possibly if I could get Windows update to work, I wouldn't have so much trouble. But of course, Windows won't update.

Which is why I'm willing to try that Mac Mini. Soon. And although it's possible to install Windows on a Mac, I won't be doing that.

This is why I do a daily virus scan.

Be careful opening your email: Virus warning

I found this at Linda's World. Apparently it's the real thing. Keep those anti-virus's updated.

Computer virus advice

Lori left a comment on my previous entry which exactly describes what happened to my sister-in-law:

"Nope, you are very right. It took out the components of my anti-virus, wiped out most of my computer's devices, took out my printer drivers and my audio drivers. I had to wipe and re-format. I am being very careful right now. A note to your readers: it is probably something called Antivirus 2009, which IS actually a virus itself, and it can come from a lot of different sites. I've had it pop up three times since getting my computer back. If you shut down and do a scan as soon as it pops up you can catch it before it gets a hold of your hard drive."

The popup appears to be a warning your antivirus, but in reality it IS the virus. My sister-in-law took her computer to have it fixed, but it still isn't right.

I was looking for lyrics to some song when I got the popup, but something didn't seem right. When I tried to click out of the page, I couldn't! Thank goodness I did ctrl-alt-del and was able to get rid of the page that way.

Now you need to understand: I was not downloading music. I was simply surfing, looking up the words to a song so I could sing it, when this happened. That's what happened to my sister-in-law too. I'm sure there are other sites with the virus, but the lyric site is where Faye and I ran into it.

Virus going around

Not the intestinal thing so many of my blogging buddies have had. Nope. I'm talking about a computer virus.

From what I've heard, this virus seems to come from song-lyric websites. It tried to get me, but I woke up in time to stop it. Cliff's brother's wife didn't catch it in time. It even destroyed her anti-virus.

If you Google for song lyrics, be very careful. If there's a popup telling you your computer has a virus... that popup IS the virus, best I can figure out.

Of course, I've been wrong before.
