Patrick's Saturday Six

Here are this week’s “Saturday Six” questions. Either answer the questions in a comment at Patrick's Place, or put the answers in an entry on your journal…but either way, leave a link to your journal at Patrick's Place so that everyone else can visit! Permission is not granted to copy the questions to message boards for the purpose of having members answer and play along there. Enjoy!
1. Do you usually feel physically younger or older than you actually are?  I'd say about exactly as old as I am.
2. When it comes to your own sensibilities and personal taste, do you usually feel younger or older than you actually are?  Older
3. Do you think you were better at being a kid or an adult?  A kid, even now.
4. Do you find yourself trying to make more time for play or rest these days? Equal amounts of each, I think.
5. Take the quiz: Are You a Puppy or a Kitten?

You Are a Kitten

You are playful and sweet, but you also treasure your alone time.

You're pretty independent, and you resent anyone trying to tell you what to do.

You don't get bored easily. You are quite good at entertaining yourself.

Deep down, you are quite sensitive and intuitive. You are less standoffish than you seem.

6. Which have you had more of in your life: dogs or cats?  Dogs, always.

Patrick's Saturday Six

Here are this week’s “Saturday Six” questions. Either answer the questions in a comment at Patrick's Place, or put the answers in an entry on your journal…but either way, leave a link to your journal at Patrick's Place so that everyone else can visit! 1. Which was the first childhood story you remember being told to you by your parents or grandparents?  Do "Old King Cole", "Jack Spratt", and "Jack Be Nimble" count?  Because the first stories I recall my parents relating to me were Mother Goose rhymes.
2. Which was the first childhood story you remember being read to you by your parents or grandparents?  A little Golden Book called "Cookie" about a dog who loved cookies.  I found a copy of it online a few years back, so I have the book again; I now realize it's actually poorly written, even for a children's book.  I think what I loved about it was the descriptions of cookies, which made me want some.  I liked "Little Black Sambo" because it made me want pancakes when the tiger turned into pancake syrup.
3. Which was the first novel you remember reading for your own pleasure, not for a class assignment?  Heidi
4. Which was the first novel you remember reading that really pulled you into the story?  Heidi; I could almost taste the cheese and bread that Grandfather made!  Do you see a pattern here?  I loved food!
You Are Alice

You are curious, brave, and inquisitive. You can't help but be interested in the world around you.

You are a bit of a loner and a total daydreamer. Your inner world is very colorful and vivid.

At times, your real life seems dull and completely unbearable. You wish you could escape to a whole other world.

While you have a wild spirit, you are quite gentle and polite. You tend to observe more than act - and you tread lightly.

6. Which childhood story would you most enjoy telling to your kids?  My favorite story to tell all little children is "The Three Little Pigs", doing silly voices for all the characters.

Patrick's Saturday Six

I haven't done one of these in a while.
Here are this week’s “Saturday Six” questions. Either answer the questions in a comment at Patrick's Place, or put the answers in an entry on your journal…but either way, leave a link to your journal at Patrick's Place so that everyone else can visit!
1. You’re at an Italian restaurant on a first date: how do you eat your spaghetti: do you cut it with the folk or roll it onto the tines? (And eating something else isn’t an option!) Gee, I hope Cliff doesn't find out I'm dating somebody new for the first time. I'd probably cut the spaghetti.

2. You’ve prepared a nice soup for dinner when you happen to hear a news story that bay leaves, even after being cooked, are sharp enough to tear internal organs when eaten whole. (It’s true.) Do you fish them out of your masterpiece, warn your guests in advance not to eat them, or just assume everyone knows to not eat the extra greenery? I always remove the bay leaves before serving. Once in a while I can't find one; then I warn whoever is eating the dish to watch for the bay leaf.

3. You’re having dinner at a nice restaurant with a group of friends and acquaintances. The sauce of your main course is the best you’ve ever tasted. You’ve eaten most of the dish, but you’ve got part of a roll and some sauce left. Do you sop up a little sauce for one more taste? I probably would. Keep in mind, though, that the "nicest" restaurant I ever go to is Olive Garden; Cliff and I don't do uppity, high-priced eating out.

4. This time, you’re at a seafood restaurant with folks you don’t know as well. Do you order a crab or lobster, a dish that would involve a lot of shell-cracking and a potential minor mess, or do you stick with something cleaner like a nice grilled fillet? I'd order something cleaner and easier.

5. You’re invited to a cookout by a friend, but when you get there, you discover that the main thing being cooked, that everyone else is a big fan of, is something you don’t like. Would you still eat a serving to be neighborly, or try to talk your way out of that one dish? There are very few foods I don't like, but if this happened, I'd at least have a little of it.

6. You’re back at a seafood restaurant with friends. Unknowingly, you order a fish that is served whole, head and all. Do you send it back or just deal with it? I'd just eat everything but the head; problem solved.

Patrick's Saturday Six

Here are this week’s “Saturday Six” questions. Either answer the questions in a comment at Patrick's Place, or put the answers in an entry on your journal…but either way, leave a link to your journal at Patrick's Place so that everyone else can visit! To be counted as “first to play,” you must be the first player to either answer the questions in a comment or to provide a complete link to the specific entry in your journal in which you answer the questions. A link to your journal in general cannot count. Enjoy!

1. If you know someone who is interested in you happens to be high maintenance, are you as likely to date them anyway? The chances of anyone who is "high maintenance" being interested in me are slim to none. The chances of me dating anybody besides Cliff, even if something happened to him, are even slimmer.

2. Do you get more frustrated by your home being in a state of disarray or your workplace being in a state of disarray? Disarray is my middle name. It's a way of life for me.

3. You decide to go to the grocery store where you don’t expect to run into anyone you know. How dressed up are you likely to get? I don't even get dressed up for church. And you think I'm going to dress up to shop for groceries? If I've been in the garden and gotten dirty, I will change clothes. That's about the extent of it.

4. Take the quiz: Are You High Maintenance?

Compared to most people, you are incredibly easy going.
To be honest, you are truly a breath of fresh air.

You are open minded about trying new things, and you're not upset when things don't work out.
You are willing to go along to get along. And your attitude helps you truly enjoy life!

5. How important is it to you that the person you would date would be roughly “in your league” lookswise? I'm a lot more interested in "nicewise" rather than "lookswise". Besides, "in my league" would make my standards pretty lenient.

6. Do you prefer spending more on a birthday gift for a close friend of having them spend more on a gift for you? I don't do birthday gifts. Of course, if you want to buy one for me, I'll take it; my birthday is coming up in a few days.

1. You’re having a high-stress day. What hobby does the most to calm your nerves and relieve your mind when you get home? Probably my Internet addiction (hobby).

2. What comfort food are you most likely to turn to when you’re having a bad day? A grilled cheese sandwich.

3. What kind of exercise leaves you feeling the best after it’s over? A nice walk in the pasture with my dog.

4. When you want to get out of the house for a while, but don’t have time for a real getaway, where are you most likely to go for a few hours? I'll go for a horseback ride; my horse is one of my best friends.

5. Take the quiz: Are You Mind, Body or Spirit?

You Are Mind

If you dream it, then you can do it. You are very mentally sharp and strong.

You enjoy challenging yourself both at work and with studies. You love mastering difficult tasks.

You thrive in new environments, even stressful ones. You are able to study everything objectively.

You have a upbeat attitude, and won't be deterred easily. You are open minded and optimistic about the future.

6. Which of yours do you think is more healthy: your mind, your body or your soul? My mind.

Saturday Six (a day late)

Here are this week’s “Saturday Six” questions. 1. When you write on your blog, are you more often trying to entertain, inform or persuade? I don't think I try to persuade, and I don't consider myself much of an informer or entertainer. I just write about my life and thoughts. I think perhaps I blog just so somebody will know I exist.

2. Do you feel you’re successful most of the time? At letting people know I exist? Yes, and it amazes me the number of people who read this mess.

3. Do you consider yourself to be more bold online than in person, or the other way around? I am possibly more blunt in person, but I've managed to step into plenty of doo-doo online a time or two.

4. Who would be most embarrassed if they read your blog? I'm pretty sure I've embarrassed my husband and my daughter a time or two. Not deliberately.

5. Take the quiz: What Kind of Communicator Are You?

You Communicate Passionately

You speak from the heart. You can't separate your feelings from what you're saying, even in a professional context.

You tend to speak dramatically, with lots of passion and emotion. It's easy for you to get swept up in what you're saying.

You like to connect with people early on so that you can personalize what you are saying to them.

When you converse, you try to find common ground and harmony. Even if you disagree with someone, you try to emphasize where you agree.

6. What do you think the biggest change has been in your online writing in the past year? I don't know that my writing has changed.

1. When you write a note to a friend, do you tend to write in cursive or manuscript? Very sloppy cursive

2. Think back to grade school when you learned how to write: which manuscript letter gave you the most trouble? I was never taught to print; Mrs. Eighmy, my first teacher, started us right out using cursive.

3. Did you find cursive easier than manuscript? Yes. See the answer to #2.

4. How do you type on a computer: the four-finger “professional” method, the “hunt and peck” method, or something in between? The "professional" method; I took typing classes in school. I do have to peek at the keyboard when using number keys, though.

5. Take the quiz: What’s Keyboard Key Are You?

You Are "enter"

Some people might try to say you're impulsive and rash.

You like to consider yourself decisive and committed instead.

You don't have a lot of trouble making very final decisions.

You trust your instincts, and you don't waver. You just go for it!

6. As a general rule, how often do you use the key mentioned in the answer to the previous question?

That's probably my most-used key!

1. Which of the following methods of travel do you most prefer: plane, train or automobile? I love road trips... so, Automobile!

2. What is the furthest distance you have traveled by each method listed above? I've flown to Virginia twice; that's a long way from here. I've been on a car trip to the Carolinas with my friend Lona. It's been so long, I forget whether it was North or South Carolina, but that's probably my longest road trip. Cliff and I can't seem to get any further than Colorado. The longest train trip I've taken is a scenic narrow-guage ride in Colorado; I think it lasted for three or four hours one way.

3. When flying, do you prefer to fly during the daytime or during the night? Daytime, so I can look down and see the earth!

4. Take the quiz: What’s Your Travel Personality?

My results say "easygoing": "When you travel, you're looking for a lot of downtime. Vacations are your chance to recoup.
All you need is a scenic spot and plenty of time on your hands. You'll figure out the rest.
You're not one to make lots of plans when you travel. You just follow whatever path seems right."

5. If you had the chance to take a one-year vacation and spend that time traveling anywhere in the country you wanted by motor home, would you do it, and if so, where would you most likely wind up? You bet I'd do it, if it were only up to me. Cliff would be a different story. I don't know where I'd wind up, but I'd make sure to be someplace warm in winter (near my sister in Mission, Texas perhaps?), and I'd see Washington, D.C. again, and definately Montana and the Grand Canyon and...

I don't think a year is enough. I want to see this whole country!

6. Do you have any superstitions or rituals you rely on before or during a big trip? Nope, I just say a prayer or two. I even do that while riding the motorcycle!

2. When it comes to clothes, at what store do you spend the most on the clothes you wear? Kohl's

3. You are assigned a big project at work: how close to deadline do you generally complete it? This doesn't really apply to me. So I pass.

4. Take the quiz: Are You a Perfectionist?

"No one would call you a perfectionist, but you definitely have a side of you that strives to be perfect. Try to see your mistakes as learning experiences, and don't be so hard on yourself when you screw up!"

5. After you finish something you are particularly proud of, a close friend makes a comment about an alternative way you could have done the same thing, and you realize that their idea is better. How are you most likely to respond, either to that person or on the inside? I don't have a clue how I'd respond.

6. Which do you generally find the easier: finding fault in your own personality, or finding fault in the personalities of those closest to you?

I tend to find more faults in myself.

3. When you’re in the mood for a big breakfast, what do you typically crave? biscuits and gravy

4. Take the quiz: What kind of muffin are you?

You Are a Cherry Muffin

You are very friendly and sweet. You love to socialize.

You have a bit of a fire in your heart, and you secretly love adventure.

You are well known for speaking your mind. You tell people exactly what you think.

However, you're so nice when you're honest, no one really cares!

Even though you're down to earth, you're not exactly the girl or guy next door.

You are actually quite worldly and sophisticated. You are well traveled and well read.

(I have to say, there's nothing accurate about this quiz; I'm not sweet and I'm not all that nice... most of this is NOT me.)

5. What are you more likely to cook for yourself for breakfast if you’re alone: a stack of pancakes, a waffle, or grits? I love waffles! However, the truth is if I'm alone, I'm likely to have a bowl of cereal.

6. What’s your favorite beverage to drink with your breakfast? coffee or milk

Enjoy!

1. In your own blog, are you more likely to discuss personal relationships, religion or politics? Personal relationships, I suppose. I simply blog about the mundane things that make up my life.

2. If you needed a “tagline” or sub-title for your blog, what would you use to describe your blog? My life and times

3. You notice that a close “blog buddy” of yours has suddenly removed the link to your blog from his or her website. Do you contact that person to ask why you’re no longer linked, or ignore it? I don't think I'd notice it; I don't really check on who links to me.

4. Take the quiz: What Kind of Blogger Are You?

You Are a Life Blogger!

Your blog is the story of your life - a living diary.

If it happens, you blog it. And you make it as entertaining as possible.

You may be guilty of over-sharing a bit on your blog, but you can't help it.

Your life is truly an open book. Or in this case, an open blog!

5. If there was no such thing as feed readers, the sites or that allow you keep up with multiple blogs at once, and the only way for you to actually keep up with your blogging friends was to actually go to their own individual blog every time, how many blogs do you think you would seriously read regularly? About half as many as I do now.

6. If you learned that each of the following people had been secretly reading your blog for a while now, which one would make you want to look back through your content to see if any apologies might be necessary: your parents, your children, your best friend, your pastor, your boss, or your worst enemy? I have many relatives who read my blog, so I blog accordingly. I don't tell the world if I have a disagreement with my husband, or if I think my kids aren't living their lives to suit my idea of "perfect". I keep my dirty laundry and many of my imperfections to myself. I've learned, little by little, to leave negative opinions of my neighbors out of my blog. So I think I'm pretty safe no matter who reads it.

This entry was done from a motel in Buffalo, Missouri, after seven hours of motorcycle riding in south Missouri and northern Arkansas. Just thought I'd let you know.

1. When was the last time you donated money to a charity, and which cause was it? I add an extra $1 to my electric bill each month to help those who can't pay theirs. My favorite charity is City Union Mission, and it's probably the last one to which I actually sent a donation.

2. Think of the last time you were specifically asked for a handout from someone who approached you on the street: did you give him or her anything? Out here in the boonies, that doesn't happen. Oh, wait. Cliff and I were entering a McDonald's several months ago, and two boys around ten years old asked us for some money to buy burgers. They were not poor- or hungry-looking, so we declined.

3. What led to that decision? Who wants to encourage children to beg?

4. Take the quiz: How Good Are You?

You Are 44% Good

You are a fairly good person. You strive to live a moral life whenever possible.

You are usually kind, generous, and loyal. However, you do have a dark side that even you may not see.

When it comes down to ethical decisions, you tend to take the path of least resistance.

So you may end up lying, cheating, or engaging in other bad behavior... because it's just easier to do so.

You are also probably: Conflicted and confused about the current course of your life

Right now you are on track to being: A slightly crooked politician

To be a better person: Break one bad habit - whether it's telling white lies or spending too much money.

5. Which kind of charity/organization of the following list are you least likely to donate money to: a church, a people-oriented charity, a children-oriented charity, an animal-oriented charity, a college, or a food bank? a college.

6. If you could permanently block a single, specific charity from ever contacting you again, which would you block and why? I don't think I have any who contact me, so that isn't a problem.

Think of your home state: off the top of your head, do you think you could accurately name your state’s slogan, the state bird, and at least half of the counties (or parishes) that make up your state? 1. When was the last time you ate fast food? Cliff and I ate an ice cream cone at McDonald's yesterday on the way home from Kansas.

I believe we both had the McDonald's $1 double cheeseburger a couple of weeks ago, and ordered water to drink with them. We're cheap like that.

2. If you get a meal on the run, are you more likely to get something unhealthy, like a burger and fries, or healthy, like a salad? Unhealthy, I'm sorry to say. I can eat healthy at home. But we never get fries.

3. Of the meals you’ve cooked at home in the past week, have they been generally more healthy or less healthy than what you would have ordered in a restaurant? Unless we have company, almost everything we eat at home is healthy.

4. Take the quiz: What Does Your Burger Say About You?

What Your Burger Says About You

You are very gluttonous. Even if you're full, you'll still clear your plate.

You are likely a fairly picky eater. And you're secretly a little squeamish about some foods.

You are a very open eater. You like many types of tastes, and you'll eat just about anything.

You tend to gravitate toward strong, pungent foods. Even if it means having bad breath!

You are straightforward, honest, and ambitious. You tend to be direct about what you want when it comes to food.

You are emotional. You have a big heart, and you tend to go for comfort foods.

5. What was the last meal you prepared for yourself? Breakfast this morning, which would usually be oatmeal. However, my oldest granddaughter was here with a request for pancakes and sausage. So that's what we had.

6. When was the last time you exercised for more than 30 minutes? Yesterday. Cliff and I try to walk for a half-hour, six days a week. That half-hour usually turns into 35 minutes.

2. At what store do you buy the majority of your shoes? Kohls

3. How much did you pay for the most expensive pair of shoes you own? $80 (cowboy boots are expensive, even when you buy the cheap ones). How much was the cheapest? Thirty-something

4. Take the quiz: What do your feet say about you? Forget the quiz, I had trouble with adding the HTML to this entry. My feet say I've been spending too much time looking for morel mushrooms, and my knees add a hearty "amen".

5. What’s your preference: dress, casual, sneaker, flip flop or sandal? I prefer no shoes, but since my feet turned traitor on me, I mostly wear sneakers with my prescription inserts inside them.

6. Have you ever had or considered getting a pedicure? Why would I? I only have one toenail. But I got rid of that pesky toenail fungus. Haaaaa!

Patrick's Saturday Six

Here are this week’s “Saturday Six” questions. Either answer the questions in the comment section at Patrick's Place, or put the answers in an entry on your journal…but either way, leave a link to your journal over at Patrick's Place so that everyone else can visit! To be counted as “first to play,” you must be the first player to either answer the questions in a comment or to provide a complete link to the specific entry in your journal in which you answer the questions. A link to your journal in general cannot count. Enjoy!

1. In terms of motivation, what gets you out of bed in the morning? COFFEE!

2. If you could sleep without having to get up at your normal time, how much later than that would you sleep on your own? I'm always awake at 3 AM. I try to make myself lie in bed until 5, and sometimes I doze a little in those two hours. I only wish I could force myself to sleep longer. I wouldn't have to get up until 8 or 9.

3. How often do you take a nap? I take a brief nap in my Lazy-boy almost every afternoon after lunch. If your office made napping a legitimate option, would you take advantage of it? I have no office; if I did, you bet I'd take advantage.

4. Take the quiz: Are you lazy?

You are a total couch potato! You never make your bed, you probably don't shower regularly, and you are not prone to doing chores. Do you even have a job? You should get up and move around and start doing stuff! It won't hurt, I promise! : )

Hey, when I took the test I said that I DO make my bed, so where did THAT come from?

5. Other than your bed, where in your home are you most likely to take a comfortable nap? In my Lazy-Boy, which is about to self-destruct, by the way.

6. When was the last time you took a workday off so that you could lie around the house doing absolutely nothing for the whole day? Workday? What's that? Would you be likely to schedule such a day in the next three months? Sure. How about tomorrow?

Patrick's Saturday Six

Here are this week’s “Saturday Six” questions. Either answer the questions in a comment at Patrick's Place, or put the answers in an entry on your journal…but either way, leave a link to your journal at Patrick's Place so that everyone else can visit! To be counted as “first to play,” you must be the first player to either answer the questions in a comment or to provide a complete link to the specific entry in your journal in which you answer the questions. A link to your journal in general cannot count. Enjoy!

1. Take the quiz: Are you a tortured genius?

You Are 38% Tortured Genius

You definitely have a few tortured genius qualities, but you hide them pretty well.

You're smart enough to be a genius - but also smart enough not to let it torture you.

2. Which of the following are (or would) you more likely to remember: your significant other’s birthday, your anniversary, or where you first met? Where we first met; Cliff's birthday and our anniversary are only two days apart, and I always have to stop and figure out which is which.

3. If a single day could be established to celebrate all wedding anniversaries and it gained the acceptance of Mother’s Day, would you celebrate your anniversary on “Anniversary Day,” on your real anniversary, or both? I'm supposed to celebrate my anniversary? All we ever do is eat out someplace... Hey, I'll celebrate both times!

4. What experience do you think you’ll honestly never forget? There are so many! I guess it would be Cliff's open heart surgery. I'll never forget the pain he went through, and the fear we both felt. That single event changed the way the two of us look at life.

5. When you have to remember to do something at a specific time, what method are you most likely to use to remind yourself? I write it on the calendar.

6. What was the last important date that you forgot? I can't think of one.

Patrick's Saturday Six

1. If you could receive only the gift of food this Christmas, which single item would you choose? A good-quality fruitcake. I know, everybody's supposed to hate fruitcake. Not me!

2. Dessert. What’s the first food that just came to mind when you read that word? Pie

3. What do you eat more of when you’re trying to lose weight? fruits and veggies

4. Take the quiz: What holiday food are you?

You Are Mince Pie

Admit it, this isn't the first time that someone has called you "beefy"

5. When you were a kid, did you ever really leave food for Santa Claus? If so, what was the typical fare you placed near the tree for Jolly Ol’ St. Nick? I don't think I left food for Santa. My children did... usually cookies, I think.

6. Do you tend to eat more, less, or about the same at Christmas dinner than you do at Thanksgiving dinner? About the same (far too much!).

If you want to play along on this Saturday Six, be sure and leave a link to your entry over at Patrick's Place. Or, you can just leave your answers in his comment section.
