I'm a little disappointed

I bought the Samsung gas stove in my kitchen four years ago.  Last week the oven stopped working; I could set it on 350 but it only got up to 180.  I found someone to fix it, but the part costs over $300, plus the labor it would take to put it in.  It scares me to buy another new one, because what if the same thing happens?  I miss the old days when kitchen stoves, refrigerators, and washing machines lasted for twenty years and more!  I'm tired of making Home Depot rich; last year we bought a washer AND a refrigerator at different times.

I would really like to buy a used stove that works, but we use propane gas, and I've never found a used stove that is equipped for propane.  For now, I'll use the electric skillet like an oven, use the crock pot and Instant Pot, and the burners on top of the stove.  I won't be making pie or cookies, but we won't starve.  These days I hardly ever make pie anyway.

We have been having lots of foggy weather and I'm seeing that we will get temperatures in the low 20's at night.  I just hope there isn't a lot of wind with the cold air, so I can still bundle up and take my five daily walks per week.

My Christmas gift was simply watching the Chiefs win!  They had not been up to par lately, but it looks like they are back, and they played three games in 11 days to do it.  I wonder if the Steelers fans thought about the snowballs they threw at our team one year ago?  I wonder if they still think the officials go easy on the Chiefs and let them get by with anything?  Good grief, the flags were flying all through the game, and it was mostly on the Chiefs (as it should have been).

OK, that's all I can think of right now.  I hope all my friends had a good Christmas.

Oh no. I'm sorry. That is really disappointing. Rebecca in SW MO

  2. My sister showed me her oven. She was mystified...it had burned through the metal, holes peppering the bottom of the oven, like a shot gun blast. I was shocked too. My stove did the same thing. So...evidently it is a 'thing' now to make ovens from metal that does not hold up to heat??? That's a shoddy product there.

    1. Oh...and I will never understand 'fans' who get so rowdy and behave so badly. There's a difference between rooting for your team and behaving like an idiot. Unfortunately, there are a lot of idiots about these days. They are everywhere.

Have a small hole in the bottom of my oven created when the coil burnt out. Repairman said OK to use and lucky that the temperature settings still work properly.

    1. That's interesting. My sister and I both have gas stoves. It never occurred to me that it might be an issue in electric stoves as well.

  4. I could have written this post except about my 3-4 year old gas fireplace. My last one died at 20 years old! I am SO frustrated. You need your stove more than I need a fireplace, but it's still unconscionable how crappy appliances are these days. The Seahawks "won" but it was the most boring game ever. I almost fell asleep. Not a single TD from either team.

  5. You are SO right, Donna! Years ago appliances seemed to last forever. Now whatever you buy will probably last a year.
I was happy when I bought my new freezer last summer. Then I saw the warranty - which is good for one year. Does that indicate that I'll have to buy a new one next summer? Yikes!

I'm so sorry Donna. I'm looking for a new one too- unless I want to fix the 2 big burners again (I've already done them half a dozen times each since we got it not too many years ago), replace the oven heating element again, and buy a timer to replace the one on the stove, oh, it's rusting at the base too. I was thinking about propane this time, but maybe not. Tim got one from Amanda's grandma's house and they are loving it. Maybe we can both find old ones that work (: Paula

Better buy one before trump puts those tariffs in place. Larry said but GE or HotPoint, but things may have changed.

  8. I don't think there's much difference between propane and natural gas, other than the regulator. Your supplier should be able to tell you, and someone at a used appliance store should, too.
