Missouri Highway 224

A twelve-mile stretch of blacktop runs from Napoleon to Lexington that used to be a well-traveled road.  It was originally part of US 24 highway and was a major east-west thoroughfare.  Old-timers in the area still call 224 "old 24" and 24 highway, a mile or so to the south, "new 24".  
I-70 eventually took most of the traffic away from both roads.  
I live within sight of 224.  It isn't heavily trafficked, although on weekends during nice weather, motorcycles frequent it.  It runs along the Missouri River, the kind of scenic byway that bikers love.  Some weekends we hear Harleys going past from dawn to dusk.  During times of flooding, it's covered by water; last summer it was flooded for months.  

  Along the way, there are still a few reminders of the glory days of old 24 Highway.
