Well, someone asked for it

One of my readers yesterday wanted to hear me sing Star of the East, the song I mentioned in my previous post.  It's hard for me to share a video of myself singing because I am aware of my vocal imperfections, as well as my limited skills at guitar playing.  So I did a video, but it's a short one, just a little over a minute:  One verse, with the chorus that I can't find on any version of this on the Internet.  My mom bought the sheet music, and that's the chorus it gave.  It is also, as you will be able to tell, the part of the song that was higher-pitched than I can comfortably sing, but I did it when I was six, and I'll do it now. Consider this your Christmas card from me.

Merry Christmas!

    1. A video of my daily life would be the two of us sitting around all day, getting sick and tired of one another all closed in on a cold day. Or in the evening, watching the same Netflix shows every day. Not too exciting.

Thank you Donna, that was lovely. I do remember singing that, I think it was sung at one of our church Christmas programs. Remember those? Every church had a Christmas program, kids would sing and recite poems and sometimes the older kids would put on a Christmas play. And at the end every kid got a bag of goodies that contained candy, nuts and fruit. That was when real Japanese mandarins were really special and you only got them at Christmas time. I miss those days.

    1. Yes, those kiddie programs have always been one of my favorite parts of the Christmas season. When I grew up in the Church of Christ, Christmas was never acknowledged because the Bible doesn't say anything about celebrating Christmas. But at school we'd have Christmas plays with baby Jesus. We had a tree and celebrated Christmas at home, just not at church.

Did not know that about the Church of Christ - do they still practice that today? Did they celebrate Easter?

    3. Northern AB gal, I really don't know, but I'd be willing to bet some congregations celebrate Christmas AND Easter. C of C has no headquarters, so I'm sure some have changed along the line, maybe not all. When I was growing up, no C of C had any instruments... just accapella singing. I believe now some of them do have pianos, etc.

    1. Thank you. I only chord, and not all that well. But I do enjoy having the guitar to accompany me. I'm very proud of my Gibson Dove, even if I don't do it justice.
